Default MY00 Figures after stage 1 build and remap...

Evening everyone,

Just wanted to post the results after a long year (so far) of modifying our UK Impreza 2000 Track Car.

We have just had the remap finished by Zen Performance (top blokes, really helpfull) and Paul said that it was the best figures he'd seen from a UK car with a VF28, std headers and a standard (ish) engine...!!

Spec as follows:

APi rebuilt engine with STi pistons, std crank, rods etc...
Uprated Oil Pump
Motul 300v 15w 50 Oil
Aluminium Catch Can for Crankcase & Rocker breathers VTA
Lightened Flywheel
Exceedy Organic Clutch
Rebuilt Gearbox with Sti gearsets
Hardrace engine & gearbox mounts
Parallel Fuel Rails
FSE Motorsport 1:1 Regulator
Carl Davey 10mm Inlet Manifold Phenolic Spacers
Carl Davey Coolant Header Tank Phenolic Spacers
Hybrid FMIC with Forge Re-Circ Dump Valve
Simota stainless air filter
Custom made aluminium heat shield
Silicon induction pipe
Ultrasonically cleaned and flow tested 440cc yellow injectors
VF28 Turbo running 1.5bar (22psi) peak, dropping to 1.4bar (20psi)
3" Decat Bellmouth Downpipe, wrapped
2.5" Decat Scoobysport exhaust
Standard headers
Mocal oil cooler
Mocal power steering oil cooler
Toyosports aluminium radiator
BC Racing Coilovers
Perrin 25mm Front & Rear ARB with Stout Mounts
Solid ARB Drop Links front & rear
Whiteline Anti-Lift kit (positive castor kit)
Polybushed in the right places
Rear Diff lock down kit
Front Brakes: CompBrake 4 Pot, 330mm x 32mm Slotted, Hawk Pads
Rear Brakes: 2000+ 2 Pot, 294mm Vented, Hawk Pads
17" Innovit Tarmac Alloys, with Pirelli Pzero Track Tyres

Comments welcome plus any thoughts if GT Spec Headers & 3" Decat would make much difference...? (As that's the only thing that's missing, lol)

Cheers,
Kim.

We are very pleased, considering we were only expecting around 320bhp & 290lbs/ft...

The car feels really good on the road/track too which is the main thing, can't help but think what difference a set of GT Spec Headers and 3" decat would make though!!

I would imagine spool up would be slightly better, but not sure about increased power as the turbo is already at it's safe limit...?

Also forgot to as Paul what the IDC (injector duty cycle) was at, as this would be interesting to see also.

That's a good result mate. Congrats!

You used the right people for the engine build and one of the Uk's mosr reputable Subaru mappers.

Lesson: get the job done right first time, pay once, leave happy!

Obviously a thoroughly prepared car and good results for a VF28.
GT 2 Spec tubular headers with the uppipe supplied will slow down spool. Consider ported headers and matched uppipe to improve spool and add top end or GT2 Spec tubular headers with special uppipe to avoid the loss of spool.

Hmm... interesting comments regarding the GT headers, we may well look into porting the standard headers then if that's the case, as this is obviously the cheaper route and would be interesting to see the results, now we have a base to compare to.

Couldn't aggree more with New_scooby_04 both API and Zen are very very good companies and do their thing really well...

Although my brother and I would like to take most of the credit for building the car up and modifying everything ourselves bar the initial engine build and the remap. ;-)

harvey, himself ports and polishes the headers and up-pipes, and always has some on the shelf for immediate despatch.

OEM ported and polished headers/up-pipes:-

He also apperars to have some of your enquired GT Spec ones for sale too. Comes with up-pipe, but don't know whether that's the GT Spec one or an OEM ported one(?). It's best to have the OEM ported one, as it will redress any lost spool (as harvey mentioned above):-

Thanks for that...

A little more than I expected for std headers, however I understand how much work goes into porting them, plus the DEI wrap is a thankless task... so maybe they're not that bad actually!!

Yeah, pretty much all of the cost is in the porting work; heat-wrap and labour to apply it, etc. (as OEM headers, themselves, can be obtained for a song.)

I would say very exceptional results for a VF28, adding to your spec would not give you any gains unless you also changed turbo.

best regards

Did you increase the fuel pressure? I'm wondering whether the yellow injectors are the same as on a V4 STI? I have the latter, and was thinking they would be maxed at more like 330 BHP. What fuel are you using, any octane booster? It certainly seems a good result!

No octane booster was used on the day of mapping, just optimax.

Fuel pressure is standard at 3bar, although we did have the yellow injectors ultrasonically cleaned and flow matched, the report showed an average increase in flow from 474cc/min to 524cc/min which obviously is helping things out.

Would advise anyone to do the same, as the results speak for themselves.
