Default stanard immobiliser

Is the imprezas immobiliser built into the ecu? Do the imports have no immobiliser fitted?

Not the sort of question you want to be asking on an open forum really, but the UK cars are fitted with an aftermarket cat 1 alarm system, the keys need to be coded also, imports on the other hand (JDM's) dont have any immobilisation out of the factory.

with the imports still no immobiliser after 97 as that was when key coding got big on cars. It's only because I've got a import sti ecu that will not work, i know that 2 wires need changing over, just wanted to know if the immobiliser was stopping it from working. I have a uk 97 turbo.
