Scooby WRX tracking/pulling problem
Hi all,
Very recently bought my mrs her first Scooby, Found a nice '04 WRX, parallel import from Holland, 26k full subaru service history. HPI clear
Noticed a slight pull to the left on test drive so they agreed to fix it. Picked car up and it wasnt fixed, rang them and they said they'd sort. To be fair the garage are being o.k and sorting it out.
They tracked it up and it showed the front left castor(which i'm led to believe is not adjustable on this model) was out, everything else was bang on with the manufacturers spec. On the road it was a lot worse, also the steering wheel was now set off centre to the left as well. As well as this the wheels/steering wheel wouldnt self centre.
They said it was probably the lower suspension arm, so they replaced it....it wasnt that as its doing the same thing now. The mechanic also adjusted something else underneath to put the steering wheel straight but its still pulling a lot to the left. also on left hand bends the wheels still wont self centre, they do however on the right hand bends.
The garage has agreed now to let me take it to a subaru main dealer at their expense and its due in next week. In the mean time...........
What do you guys think?
Is it Bent??
Simple suspension problem?
Common fault??

Has it got 4 of the same tyres? All fitted the correct direction if directional and inflated to the correct pressures?
Normally pulling to one side is due to unequal camber on the two fronts if the tyres are the same. However if you adjust the camber on just one side of the car it then affects the toe in for that wheel, causing the steering wheel to be off center. You're right castor is non-adjustable, often they don't match that close side to side, but only affects the camber of each wheel once the steering is turned and shouldn't affect the straight line pulling you describe.
It sounds like they just aren't particularly proficient at setting it all up in the right order. (although admittedly it can take a couple of attempts)
Unless they deal with many subarus its possible that they also don't know the correct settings to go for - do a search for the prodrive settings as that is what a lot of people aim near.
Also worth checking the settings on the rear if they haven't been already...
