Default GT Spec Gen II Headers vs TSL Unequal vs OBX Equal vs OE Ported?

I have a set of OBX Stainless Steel Equal length headers and 3" matched uppipe on mine but want the burble back but dont want to increase the spool up time too much low down as laggy enough on my APS SR40 turbo.

Ideally would like more torque and BHP across the rev range and get the old burble back to some degree.

Spoke to Harvey and he said the following but would like some other opinions from Andy F or some of you guys that know my car.

The following are typical mods i have done and am running 410bhp/381, would i get 440 bhp if changed my headers and ran 650cc injectors and had a remap?

APS SR40 Turbo
Miltek 3" System from turbo back
OBX SS Headers and 3 inch uppipe
SX FPR running 3.5 bar
Ecutek remap by Andy F
Hyperflow TMIC
Apexi AVCR running 1.6 bar
APS CAK with K & N Kit

For best burble you need ported headers and matched uppipe.

I can do you a new GT Spec 2 type tubular headers and to improve the performance of the GT Spec headers I do a replacement uppipe which comes to you heat wrapped and ready to fit with five new studs, slip jointed etc.

The improvement in performance of the GT Spec headers with this purpose designed special uppipe is quite remarkable so I am confident that you will greatly improve performance over your OBX with my headers and uppipe. The noise from the tubular headers which is uneven is not as strong as the burble from the original headers and some customers tell me the burble is extenuated with the ported headers. Ported headers will spool far earlier than you already get from the OBX and there will be more torque across the rev range but top end power will be similar.

I put some unequal tubular headers on and after about a week i finally admitted it sounded crap to me unless you were revin it nuts of, so i got harvey to do my headers and a matched performance uppipe it sounds amazing now and i am well happy, maybe you lose a bit of top end but it suits me,its now got a super smooth burble right from idle makes me grin, and other mods on the way will make up for any losses. Its a personal thing sometimes you have to compromise.

Its just seemed to be asking only for opinions from people that know the car or from Andy and kept bumping it up.

Do what you like personally but I think you would be far better off changing the turbo for something that spools up and makes the power rather than spending to find a solution that works with a poor and laggy turbo.

Just my opinion though.

Your prob right with regards the turbo but although it may be slightly laggy it produces good power and andy said my SR40 was one of the best he mapped and with 650cc injecors should reach 440bhp as got 410bhp out of it with standard STI injectors running 3.5 bar on FPR.

Reason im asking for header choice is i want my burble back though!!!!!

Maybe im wrong but its the OBX matched one to go with the headers.

So do you have an opinion with regard the headers then?

Cheers carle.

I am sure the up-pipe will be smaller than that. If it isnt, then swapping to unequal length gt spec II and a smaller up-pipe will def improve the response.

If it is smaller than that and you have quoted the wrong size here, then moving to a gt-spec and smaller up-pipe may well at least match your current figures. I havent tried harvey's up-pipe myself but it seems to be producing great results elsewhere so i have no reason to doubt that it would for you. I am sure that the possible restriction that a reduced diameter could cause wont be an issue at your power levels.

On the other side, there are plenty of off the shelf turbos that will hit 450bhp (and more) and give great spool up and work with unequal length headers to give the sound effects you want.

Being the MD321h or t range I assume as everyone seems to be raving about these turbo's, but they are quite expensive.
