Default help help cel 22

hi every one. my car has developed a cel code 22 and it has started detting it all started when a gained an oil leek from my rocker cover gaskets a few weeks back. i went down subaru and got all the new gaskets washer and wot nott, stripped it down replaced all the gaskets and while i had it all in bits, i had a little porting session on the turbo and cast headers just to try and improve things since i put it all back together its been poping when i change gear on mid to high boost. i had a little happy moment on the loud pedal last week but when i got home it chucked the cel light on and has give me the 22 knock sensor so off i went down the local subaru man and he said it could be the lambda sensor, so i ordered up a bosch ls02. it arrived and i fitted it and still the 22 so ive pulled the plugs out and there ok ish a little sooty but not wet or white, whiped off the knock sensor and there a few little cracks on the plastic outer and its a little corroded but looks ok. does any one have any good ideas what it could be, its drinking petrol like its gone out of fashion, it puts the cel on only when its warmed up and usaly in traffic at low revs. the car is a fairly standard v2 sti ra fully decated and apexi filter, wolbro 255, hks fcd. any one, help please

heres a list of all the code meanings..

Subaru Trouble Code Info
Retrieving Trouble Codes
96 & later are OBD2 systems
There are self-diagnositic connectors on all models, when connected with the key ON (engine off), flash trouble codes on the LED light of the oxygen moniter of the ECU.

Images used with permission Copyright 2001 ALLDATA LLC.

The connectors are under the steering wheel, to the left of the module on most models.
On carberated and SPFI injected 89 models, the test connectors are located on the engine side/driver's side of the firewall.
Imprenza models have the ECU and test connectors located behind the right side of the dash, instead of the left.
On SVX models the connectors are located behind the driver's side kick panel.
Test Modes
With neither test connector connected and the key ON(not running), the codes will display codes related to starting and driving.
With only the "Read Memory" connector connected, historic codes will be displayed.
With only the "Test Mode" connector connected, a technician can perform dynamic tests.
The last mode is for clearing codes.(See Clearing Codes)
Reading Trouble Codes
The codes are displayed as pulses of the LED mounted on the module. Long pulses (1.2 seconds) indicate tens and the short pulses (.2 seconds) indicate ones. Pulses are seperated by .3 second puses and codes are seperated by 1.8 second pauses. NOTEn 89 MPFI models, the Oxygen Moniter light and ECU are mounted under the rear package shelf and are only accessible from the trunk.
On some later models the Check engine lamp and O2 monitor lamp flash the code(s) corresponding to the faulty part. The long segment (1.2 sec on) indicates a "ten", and the short segment (0.2 sec on) signifies a "one".

90 models - Trouble codes on the Justy are viewed on the Oxygen Moniter light, all other models the codes can be viewed on either the Oxygen Moniter light or the MIL (check engine light).
95 Imprenza and Legacy models have OBD2 systems and require a scanner, but some basic codes can be retreived using the flashing MIL method.
Clearing Codes
Codes will only clear when the faulty system or circuit has been repaired. After making the repairs, codes can be cleared by connecting 2 pairs of connectors, the "Self-diagnostic" connectors and the "Read Memory" connectors that are usually to the right of the diagnostic connectors.

Start with a warmed up engine
Turn off the engine
Connect both pairs of connectors
Fianlly start the engine
This should clear the codes.

i had a look at that page on google

i find the jolly green monster one better

the car was originaly on a hks foam type filter before i did the strip down, but it kept on eating maf sensors so i went back to standard air box and panel filter thats when i got the 22. i tried the apexi one just to try and get more air back in to the engine as it seemed to be over fueling, i dont have a afr meter but it stinks of fuel when at the lights and with it poping and detting and drinking fuel like fine champagne it must be.

this is the correct one and thats the genuine subaru price to

i know this one is of a v5 but the v3 to v4 one is similar looking to a v1-v2 but it is different

just check with your dealer that the number you have of e bay is correct

the one on ebay has the correct part number to the one that was fitted to my car

but is it the knock sensor that is at fault, the problem has only come to light after i did the rocker seals and porting to the turbo and headers. is there any way of testing the knock sensor to see if it is at fault.

When you find a cure be sure to let us know. My car does the same when hot pootling around at low revs, replaced knock, lambda and maf and still does it...

If its drinking fuel it might be the MAF or coolant sensor thats knackered.

ill be sure to let every one know, it looks like a long exspensive slippery slope im at the top of, first things to change are plugs and knock sensor, then maff sensor, then get the injectors cleaned, and then after that i aint got a clue. is there any scooby geniuses out there who can shed some light or even some ideas on the situation

i think it may just be a coincidence that it has come on since you have messed with it if your knock sensor has cracks on it then it will cause problems if the sensor fails then it wont be able to back the timing off to stop knock i think you have to start by changing it

i would still be carefull with a non genuine sensor i know they are tempting with a good price but if it doesnt work correctly an engine re-build is a lot more money than the subaru sensor is it worth the risk

i did think the worst with mine kept thinking i had det problems and that it wouldnt be a sensor but the code is a direct fail of the sensor that the ecu saw during running i changed mine with a genuine sensor and it has never been better good luck with this would like to know how you get on

i think its now fixed it i bought a non gen knock sensor and fitted it and it brought the light straight on stupid me i was warned. so phoned roger clark this morning reserved a nice new genuine knock sensor and drove 160 miles round trip to collect it. spent 10 mins fitting it and crossed my fingers when i started it up, and hey presto its a gooden. ive taken it out for a blast for about 20 miles and the light hasnt come on so i think its now ok. ive tried resetting my ecu via the conectors under dash but its still remembering the 22 so im going to try the battary trick to try and sort it, just like to say thanks to every one for there help (mdb sti2)

I just read in another thread that if you start the car 3 times in a row, it might clear the CEL light? Try it...
