Default Service details please

Such a newbie question, but we've all got to start some where.

Recently got a 97 Uk wagon Turbo. I want to service it before i start running it around.

what Visc oil is required?

How much to fill?

Can and should i change the diff/box oil?

If so whats the best stuff for that?

Anything else advised?

Its done just over 100k. Decent history, with the t/belt being done around a year ago.

Cheers Dave

Standard oil is shell helix 10w40 semi synthetic (but any good 10w40 semi synth will do), it takes 4ltrs in the engine and .5ltr in the oil filter (you need to fill the filter as it can cause issues if you dont)
Gearbox/diff oils can be done (every 2 years is normal) but the gearbox oil has to be put in via the dipstick tube, so your going to need a funnel for it

On a higher mileage car look at 10W or 15W, either 40 or 50 grade. A quality fully synth such as Silkolene Pro S/R, Millers, Motul or Fuchs. The car takes about 4.5 litres, but you MUST prime (pre-fill with oil, allowing it to soak in until it won't take any more) the new filter before fitting. Always fit a new compression washer to the sump plug. The service history might tell you when the diff oil was last changed, but I've never done that so someone else can help you there.
Check the brake fluid too, and if it needs doing upgrade to DOT4, 5 or 5.1, and maybe slap some braided lines on whilst you're bleeding the system through. It's also strongly advised that if it's still running the crap 2 pot calipers, to get hold of some later 4 pots. You'll be needing new discs then, and new pads (Performance Friction, Mintex, Ferodo, Pagid).

It is running the standard brakes at the moment, on first impression they are very poor. I have upgraded to Goodridge braded lines and 5.1 fluid on my Clio Sport, so will most likly do the same on this.

DO the 4 pots bolt straight onto the original mounts and use the same dics?

Is it just a better more evolved caliper from a newer model?

So many questions

Standard mounts, but needs a bigger 295mm disc. They were fitted from '98 on.

So basically just running the set up from the later model?

Are the calipers readily available and how much should i be looking to pay?

Thanks again

Scoobybits list them at £220 a pair, but I don't know if that includes discs

Scoobyclinic list them as complete with discs and pads at £450 (£500 fitted).

Some bits in For Sale HERE. No brakes, but consider the Whiteline 22mm rear ARB and solid drop-links

Click HERE for a search in FS General and FS Parts for 'pots'.

Looks like some decent parts for sale there.

I'll get the servicing sorted first then look into uprated parts.

As for the diff and box oils, vics for them?

easy change? Any guides online?

Cheers again guys.
