was all working fine till the oil temp started playing up.
it wouldnt do the start up set up and the was just stinking at about 130.
i took the sener out and put in a boiling cup of water and it worked fine but when it went back in it stopped again.

If you remove the sensor and hang it in mid-air does it do the same, then it's an earthing fault... or a duff connection in the wiring.

If the sensor works fine out of the car, then that would tell me that when you have a bad earth, when connected to the hole above cylinder 3. Thats if you are doing that way and not using a sandwich adapter.
Maybe you are using too much PTFE tape, and its not earthing properly.

As suggested by Mick above but i would also check the wiring from Sensor to control unit as i have found issues with these too.
Check around the connections on the control unit too and ensure the copper is not touching each other.
