spring turning at top of cup :(
hi all,
had some HKS -20mm springs in my 93 wrx for 3 years now. of late ive had a pinging/clank noise when i turn the steering wheel. driving it the other day got a heavy shaking through the steering wheel. turns out the spring wasnt seated in the cup.
ive since removed the leg and reseated the spring. not sure exactly what position the top cup should be in for a start
its done the same again.
spoken to s/clinic and they suggested that possibly it could be strut top bearing gone. now off the car this has no play and turns free.
is my top cup worn/bent? or top bearing failure?
ideas as im stumped.
cheers

Would go with the bearing, it isnt turning once under load i'e car weight so the only thing which can move is the spring giving you that noise. Have done alot of them at work on other cars, Never had any problem with cups wearing or bending, hth.
