Default rebuild advice

just wondering, i'm looking for a rebuild and was
wondering how much of the cost is labour and how much
for parts, lookin to build up all the required parts over the
next 6 months but will obviously need a lump sum for the build.

i assume it isnt a problem to supply your own parts, and just pay
someone to build it?

so how much should i budget for just the "build", assuming engine
already out?

oh its a 96 wrx by the way not looking for anything silly, would be happy
with reliable 300/300 as its a daily driver, any point going forged, would
it be "bulletproof" running that little power?

If you only want 300bhp then standard internals will be good enough for that (even standard today will be slightly better than standard back in 96 I believe). I had my 96 WRX re-built by API Impreza and they are very good in my opinion. David's the man you need to speak to for the best advice. You will more than likely be looking at between £2000-£3000 +VAT for all parts and labour at a guess but if you want 300bhp then you'll need abit more to make that happen(exhaust, headers, re-map). Maybe try and budget for more though just incase say your clutch needs replacing, flywheel etc
Hope that's of some use...noone else replied so I thought I'd stick in my 2 pence worth so to speak . Goodluck

cheers mate, never gonna save 3k though, money burns a
hole in my pocket, buying pistons, rods bearings etc kills
2 birds with one stone.

i think i hate about subarus is i now cannot moan
when my missus goes shopping, "how much have u spent on that car" etc
except not quite that lady like

That was just an estimate . I had my WRX 260BHP my96 JDM spec rebuilt about a year or so ago. I got everything from API as I trust David's judgement but you could probably get some similar part's cheaper if you shop around. I had a few extra goodies including an uprated STI clutch, light weight flywheel & matched/ported header's and a few other bits but the short story is it cost me £3900 odd including everything & VAT. Still very happy with mine although as soon as I've got some dosh I want to get more performance...I'm aiming for 320bhp+ for starters but I'm sure I'll get used to that and want more again in the future .

Throwing it out there... ZEN should be able to do a std. rebuild for around £2.5-3k all in.... (dependent on whether any of the existing block/heads/pistons/rods/crank are reusable... or if supplying any of your own, etc.)

That's just a guess based on my own - very pleasant - experience with my own ZEN-built motor.

Contact Paul @ ZEN to discuss your requirements, though...
