Default Dont you hate it when u get battered by the car you were going to buy :(

For months i was looking for a Dc5 integra but got fed up of waiting for the right one ,So i ended up with an 03 blob eye wrx which iam very chuffed with ...

So today being one of the nicest days in ages myself the missus and one of my mates who owns a dc5 went for a Sunday run to Conway and Llangollen and had a terrific day out and had a gorgeous pub meal to boot (Mmmmmm pub lasange ......... But

it was always niggling in my mind that my mates stock dc5 was pulling away from me and seemed a hell of alot faster ..

at the moment im running a full magnex system and 57i induction kit

what is the next step to take in terms of power gains

ive been looking on scooby clinic and seen there package for 275 bhp for over a grand ...... is this the next step ??

I would suggest that you replace the K+N with the original air filter, add a decat downpipe and get the car remapped. This will see you 270-280. It should cost around £550 for a remap.

Thats why i wanted a dc5 simply because they looked a bit more modern but i couldnt justify paying £8k upwards for a decent example which more than likely would be a 51 plate when there are newer and faster cars for less dosh ..... would have another one in a heart beat tho

cheers for the reply

the car already has been decatted ..... i take it you lose alot of power with the aftermarket filters then heat soak ?

whats entailed with a remap ?

I owned a 54 plate Spec C (Jap import) & had some bits & pieces upgraded, all of which took the car from 300bhp to about 375bhp:

Uprated fuel pump
3 port boost solenoid
Decat exhaust.
Uprated actuator.
Induction kit.
Bob Rawle remap.

Should work for a UK car too. Cost was about £2.5k but I did buy everything brand new with exhaust costing over £1k

Tegs are about 220 BHP but its the power delivery v quick off the mark and a very good top end ........ not much torque tho i battered him up the hills just on the straights he pulled away

DC5 is a small car too so will be lighter than the WRX. Scoob is 215 bhp as standard.

I just dont get this Honda Vtec thing. I drove a DC2 a couple of years ago after listening to all the Honda boys on our local jap forum pay homage to it.
I can honestly say that after listening to all the hype it was the most disappointing car ive ever driven.
All it done was make a load of noise past 5k and the rev counter rised, i just didnt seem to be getting anywhere fast.

The DC5 is a nice looking car but that's where it ends for me, IMO their no match for other car's in there price range like the STI 8 and EVO 8.

Put the induction kit in the bin, fit the old airbox, get a pannel filter and cut out the resonator in the wing..

Have you got a decat? The exhaust system will give you no gains other than 'noise' without a decat or a sport cat.

Pretty shocked you were handed your **** by a DC5, maybe its your driving?

if he has the induction then i dont see the point in taking it off. no gain but its not going to costing any power. could add a cold air feed. has the car never been re maped ? if not get it done asap

Come on guys give the guy some decent advice.

You do not need to bin the induction kit. They still filter air don't they? Which is their job. The induction kit and exhaust alone will not give you any real power increase but if it is fitted then why change it. All you need to do for some real power increse is a remap. That will see you up to a max of 300bhp and a good increase in torque too.

If you want more than that only then start looking at other things. Speak to a tuner mate.

Thats not exactly great advice fella, the stock Turbo on his car will run out of puff well before 300bhp.

OEM AIrbox+Panel Filter+Decat+Remap = 280bhp. Job done. Total cost... £600-£700?

From memory, they have two cat pipes, both can be removed, but you will NEED a remap if you do them.

I havnt checked myself but on the advertisment from the dealer i bought it from it says decat pipe(s) fitted and full stainless system , if i were to get my hands on an oem airbox (as the car wasnt supplied with it lol) plus a panel filter would that be enough to justify a remap ?

Some have reached 300 on the smaller turbo, every engine is different. The 280bhp that is always quoted is an average, some do better some don't. And 280-290 is hardly way before 300 is it? So I stand by my post.

Most people are lucky to see 280 on a TD04 so quoting a fiqure that only a very small minortiy have made IMO is not great advice.
I stand by my posting by not seeing a TD04 as a 300bhp turbo.

You will gain from a remap rather than it just being necessary or not.
Standard car with a remap will be a better car, then when you start adding mods it is not getting the full potential from them

must say im shocked your car wasnt able to match his.

my wrx is standard engine wise with follwoing mods

sports decat
3" mid section with 3" bore back box
kandn panel filter

all pretty run of the mill mods, nothing special, had a play with a dc5 and was on its tale bumper to bumper,it was very quick mind, but it wasnt faster as such, just a quick car i was able to match,so surely your newer impreza should keep up
