Sounds like a someone blowing over a bottle comes about 2000rpm to 4000rpm

Sounds like a leaking dump valve to me, i had one replaced under warranty for exactly the same reason.

Yup, if its a UK97 then it might be worth trying to claim of of warranty. I know your warranty would have run out, but it's a known manufacturers fault (like piston slap) so warranties don't come into it
