Default what are modines for

hi all,
what are the modines for and can they run without if there is an oil cooler on the car,

You can run without the modine on the car if using an external oil cooler, but your oil temps from cold start will rise much slower as the modine uses the water temp to aid heating of the oil from cold, so not ideal for short journeys. The Oe Modine cools the engine oil using the engine coolant system and does a very good job in most cases. Modine and oil cooler combo works best on a road car imo.
