Alright dudes!
I'm afraid to say I'm one of those power heads who goes for performace over handling - I'll let the AWD take care of that department
So far I've got:
Magnex 6x4 full system
K&N Panel Fitler
What's the next step for more power? I was thinking of replacing the K&N with an induction kit e.g 57i. Then what? I was thinking:
Dump valve
ECU
Is this the next logical step? What are the 'benchmark' mods/products that are generally used?
Much thanks,
J

Thumbs up

Found this while doing a search so thought I'd resurrect it since I've moved things forward a bit

After eventually sorting the brakes out I now have the following mods:

Jap Innov. dp / magnex centre+back box (full decat)
Dawes MBC + AFR set @ 15psi
Bailey VTA dump valve (well it sounds good)

I always get the 'blue light' on WOT and lift off (is this good?). What more can I do to the engine? Do I need to replace the ECU for more torque/power? The car is an early MY97 - what ECU upgrades are available?

Cheers
Jamie

Jamie - I put the downpipe on to complete my magnex decat....what a difference in sound...& more importantly it gets rid of exhaust gasses quicker & quickens spool up time on the turbo.
I got mine chipped at the same time so I gained a massive difference all in one go.
Full induction kit after that as well helped...or seemed to anyway.

Shunty,
What chip did you get and was it expensive? This is one (of the many) areas of cars I know very little about!
I'm already running @15psi on the old boostometer, If I go much higher it keeps cutting out, that's why I thought a new ECU or whatever might be needed.
I'd like to get the suspension sorted but that would mean a journey up north to a place with the right facilities as I don't think there's anywhere round here that can do that.

John, would a turbo swap be more beneficial than tinkering with the ECU? I believe my car has the TD04 turbo which is the medium sized one, is this a limiting factor in my quest for more power???

Thanks,
Jamie

TD04 is the baby one! Yes it will very soon hold your car back from real power.

Oi, get yer own splitter!

Don't worry Jen, just bought some grooved pagid discs/pads so should be able to stop a bit quicker now
The splitter is actually starting to look a bit silver now due to the amount of stone chips it's collecting. At this rate you wouldn't even need to paint it

PS bummer about no Scoobynet access at your work - I think I'll make that a pre-requisite of any jobs I go for in future

hi jamie, i am in the same boat as you mate, where next???

i have a my95 wrx with full de-cat, dawes device(racing),dawes fuel cut lifter, bmc carbon cold air filter, sti 6 intercooler, hks dump to atmos, i run mine at 1.2 bar and the afr stays blue at WOT and on the over run.

been looking at getting a knock link next but after that i will be wanting some sort of re-map or chip.

you will be able to get a TD05 nice and cheap and they are a good turbo for more boost.

dave wallis and pavlo seem to be working on a map for our ECU but not sure if they have it sussed yet.

Hi Jonny, I guess you were referring to this thread. Looks very impressive but way over my head! Seems like the only ECUs that are still being worked on are the MY97-98 ones (two types) so you should be able to get something for yours if it's a MY95 .
I think I need to spend a while reading through that thread - I might even go and have a look at my ECU too to see what type it is for future reference .

Cheers,
Jamie
