hi guys my 1993 wrx import aint fast enough for me
so bought a ecu off ebay with a chip fitted the lad said it would take boost to 1.2 bar he said it worked well on his car for several months till some one crashed into him and wrote his car off
got it today fitted it but my car wont start with it and all my solenoids are going crazy any ideas on wats wrong thanks

 

Does the engine crank over but doesn't want to fire?

Sounds like the ECU has got damaged in transit (but the added sports chip inside is prob okay). The same thing happened to a Polar Performance-chipped ECU I bought off eBay. Had to get Scott T to swap the chip/board over into a spare ECU.

If it IS that, then you can pick up a another doner MY93-96 4-plug ECU for about 15-30 quid if you're lucky...

 

Oh, and the max boost will invariably be 1.1bar (16psi), as the MY93-96 MAP sensor's limit is at 1.2bar and would fuel-cut (or is it boost cut? - can't remember) at that point.

 

Are the ECU codes the same? You could try putting the chip in your old ECU

yes engine cranks over but wont start and all solenoids going daft.
are all 4 plug ecus just the same as each other mine was a u8 and the one with chip fitted was a 3b

 

Once the chip is fitted it make no difference as the settings are now in the chip. Your U8 ecu does not have a plug for the chip to go into though. It'll still work but you will have to get it soldered in. OR. Get another ecu with the plug already fitted. Some came as standard, I think in the STI's and the RA. From memory a Z5, 7B, 6K have them (I'm a bit rusty mind!). And some more too but I cannot remember.

HAVE YOU CUT THE J1 IN THE ECU FOR IT TO START WORKING ,BUT THEN ME PAL HAS THE SAME SORT OF ****E AND IT MADE IT WORSE BETTER OF BUYING MY Z4 ECU OF ME. WILL MAKE IT 260 / 280 BHP

For starters the Z4 is 260ps not 260bhp, it will be nowhere near 280bhp. Also there is no way one of these sorts of ****e will make a car run worse unless the car has problems to begin with.
