Sounds like JJK is doing a project of some sort. Have you tried looking at any good old fashioned Mechanical Engineering books? Give your local library a visit or run a search on www.google.com for Intercooler or Turbo.

Go on it isn't that hard if you really want the info.

 

Not quite as complicated as that - luckily....
Have found some stuff on turbos but not on intercoolers.

Mates at work have asked and I'm not mechanical unfortunately.

Pretty good explanation, though not detailed into the internals if that's what you're after...

Cools the air from the turbo on it's way to the engine making the air denser increasing power. It works like a radiator for the water cooling system.
