A: You wont have to pay for second remap when you stick a turbo on it...which you will, LOL.
B: You'll obviously get much better results
C: It'll make the most use of the FMIC
And if you really got the money stick some injectors in for a few more horses
On mine, MY99 T2000, just a full decat and induction kit gave me 31 BHP then when mapped 273 BHP as the standard turbo, all be it the tdo4, couldn't give me anymore! If I had known I definately wud have put VF34 or sumink on it just to make the BHP figures more pleasing for the cost of the 1st remap.

His TD05 is good for around 330-350bhp with the right setup.... will need bigger injectors, FPR and Pump and then a remap though!
you will have to buy a chip, mappable piggy back board or an aftermarket ECU due to it being an early WRX.

You could go for a aftermarket ECU like a Simtek or Power FC, or with a 1995 could use a daughterboard like the ESL (I think JGM and Scott T can supply them) or with the set up you have got, could put a Polar Performance chip in and see aprox 300 bhp.
At a push a td05 may see 340-350 but standard 14 year old WRX internals may not. Also at 350bhp with similar torque the gearbox will be taking a hammering. The problem with mods is that one thing leads to another
I've got a 1995 WRX with de-cat exhaust, FMIC and air filter and went the PP chip route. Haven't had it rolling roaded yet (only done it this week) but hope to see somewhere around the 300bhp / 300 ft/lb mark. Hopefully this will be reliable until I can save my pennies for a 6-speed box and forged engine!!

My mates made 318bhp and 302ft/lbs torque, but I've heard of others making just less than 290bhp on the PP chip, I'm hoping for an average beween the two . Providing you have the fueling checked out it is a pretty good upgrade for the price - £200.

Most cost-effective NEW ECU would be the ESL Live - 550+VAT fitted and mapped by JGM. The good thing about this ECU over the Apexi is that it retains all of the OEM I/O sensors, and therefore keeps the fabbo OEM ignition retard/advance IAM feature - well worth having! The Apexi doesn't alter timing should knock occur - you have to rely on the Commander's display and a CEL flash feature to monitor any knock activity (and actively take evasive action as necessary).
If going 2nd hand, get an Apexi - ESL Live is R.a.R-H.S. 2nd hand! :-(
Also, the MY93-96 ESL Live is NOW available as MAFless!!! - even better! Contact Graham Duncan ("dynamix") for availabilty...

It's, allegedly, a new release.
But I don't know if you have to buy a new board outright (I think you do), or whether it can be added to the original ESL Live by a firmware download to the ECU ???
I believe dynamix sells this new MAFless version (or has contacts for suppliers) - I'd contact him for any further downlow...
