My car running like poo.HELP!
hi all
just had the car off of the road for about 6 months, its a 96 WRX import.
fitted a few new bits like a de-cat and samco hoses.
on the cat pipe there were 2 sensors, do these both need to be connected when the decat pipe is fitted, i know the top one is the O2 sensor what is the bottom one?
just started the car again for the first time, it runs but the engine check light is on and the idle is wild. then drops and cuts out.
can anybody help?
i was thinking maybe it is the ECU learning but im worried about the check engine light coming on.
cheers

Well perhaps you should get the CEL checked
Scoobypedia | Trusted knowledge for everything Subaru | Scoobypedia / Scoobypedia under the heading 'ECU' shows how you can manually check the codes

cheers for that, didn't realise that i could manually check the codes.
just managed to do it and got two error codes:
24 Idle Control System Malfunction
24 ISC Valve (Stick)
24 Open/Short in ISC Valve Circuit
and
31 Throttle Position Sensor Circuit
i suppose this makes sence as to why it is idling badly.
now that i have found the problems any ideas how to tackle it?
as for the CAT on fire sensor does this have to be connected with a de-cat?
cheers

Also, have you adjusted your Tps at all? It's the black box by your intercooler on the entry to the inlet.
Also try a ecu reset.

i have had the throttle postion sensor off ages ago so must not have put it back on right. where should the TPS be? should it be in contact when the throttle body is in its natural postion?
how do you clean the ICS valve out? as i have read you can.
might go outside now and tackle it.

ive now managed to sort the idle problem, moved the TPS and all is ok now.
just took the car for a run around and when up to temp there was alot of white smoke coming from the exhaust, could this be oil, or would it be water in the exhaust being burnt off?
