Default Bugeye undertray

Well after your thoughts on this...

got a 2001 wrx and soon going to fit an aps tmic, only problem is the standard undertray is too small, looked into getting an sti one but going to fab one up myself to suit.

oh also going to change scoop to a larger version for a bit more air.

only question i think i need answering is this, in the pic of zerosports version it has vents cut out above turbo position

do you think i should add this to mine or would it work if i were to do the vented(diverted) area over that too if you know what i mean??

or just buy an sti plastic one and shut up??

Looks like narrow area for cooling...

I'd say go the extra mile, get bigger sti scoop of that age group and then get splitter to go with it, you'll notice the difference in pull.

I run mine with no undertray at all and a larger scoop.

The larger top mount I have fills the whole bonnet cut out anyway so I tried an STi undertray first and then tried it without anything.

I am fairly certain that the lack of tin tea-tray with a cutout has nothing to do with my engine failure !

Forgot to add, if you do get a larger bonnet scoop I would invest in some bonnet pins, the bonnet movement at three figure speeds is quite alarming !

thanks for the replies

Addison thats a good find, they are overpriced hence having a go doing it myself

still wondering if i need to do that vented area or can i make the opening even larger and leave that out altogether????

gonna be a few weeks till i do this but will post pics and give an opinion on performance, but not really going to be able to say if this helps as changing turbo and injectors at the same time oh and remap.

When you fit one of those gadgets (I had one ages ago), the vents go over the turbo area...can't see it making that much difference, more important to split flow over IC so no hot spots. If you dont have the "tin", you still need the rubber around the IC to seal the air flow and push it through IC fins (its more resistance to go through that then just blow around the edges and into engine bay.
If you dont have one at all (and no rubber) watch the back wall of engine bay start showing up cack from the road, which means air flow going that way also....just my experience.
