STI RA Gearbox - Problems after rebuild!
Hi guys,
I recently had a problem with my Version 3 STI Type RA Gearbox. I gave it a little too much one day and grinded 4th gear, when I tried to put it back into 4th it would not stay in gear, so I had a rebuild done (which cost me an arm & a leg...!) I replaced everything (with genuine / brand new parts) other that the actual gears and shafts (as these were in good condition). Replaced the bearings, selectors, synchro's, hub, etc etc.... When I collected my car from the mechanic it would stay in gear most of the time, but it still jumped out of 4th (every day) I found this pretty strange as once it was in gear it was fine. I got a year warranty on the re-build, so took it straight back to my mechanic (who is a Subaru specialist) and had him re-do all his work. He assembled the box and still the same problem! My car has been at the mechanic for a month tomorrow and after re-assembling the gearbox 4 times it still jumps out of 4th! Has anyone had a similar problem and could anyone advise me as to what else this could be?
My casing has been scuffed in quite a few places from the rough mechanic so he's agreed to change the whole case (cost free) as he should!
Here's a picture of my gears. I'll add a close up of the shaft with 4th gear.
