Default Stock FPR and DIY Parallel conversion

Forgive me if this is a stupid question :-

Is it not possible to retain the OE FPR while converting the fuel delivery to parallel AND installing an aftermarket FPR. So in effect using the OE FPR as an "adapter elbow" ?

My thinking being is that if you disconnect the vac line (from the OE FPR) then it will always stay set at 3bar and never go any lower (or higher), whereas the aftermarket FPR would actually regulate the pressure (which should always be >~3 bar) - IYSWIM?

A simple adaptor is only a few quid.

Not really, since you feed both rails and return from both rails at the same time.
