Red face bad bhp

hi all, took my97 uk turbo to Apec Racing yesterday for a power run as this is my first scooby and when purchased came with a graph showing 250bhp but was shocked when run finished tech guy came out to tell me only running 171bhp with 0.6 bar of boost. he said he could turn the boost up as i have a manual controller but it would be at my risk, so i declined this paid my money and very calmly drove of crying in my lap. my question is how is it possible to lose 79bhp in two years and should i have gone with the tweeking of the boost. i have a straight through exhaust, cone filter, dump valve and thats about it. your thoghts would be appreciated

Where did you take it? Surely the 'tech' guy had an idea why it wasnt running well? What i getting at is, if it was 250bhp before, you shouldnt need to turn up the boost to achieve it again

took it to a company called Apec Racing in gloucester but i think they specialise on evos and bmw as mine was the only scooby there. the tech guy told me there were no turbo leaks and that 0.6 bar was standard for this model but said nothing about bhp till he handed over print out and as this is my first scooby and very green i just paid and left.

0.6bar isnt standard on a UK turbo, you should be pushing .8 to .9 bar standard, for 250bhp you should be at around 1.1bar.
Take the car to somewhere who knows Impreza's, you have a problem that needs to be sorted

171 at wheels wouldnt be that far out on 0.6 bar imo if you had 250 at fly b4,
whip your carpet up in the passenger footwell and see what ECU you have installed please,
That will tell us what the ecu should be boosting for a start,
Was the graph you got with the car from the same garage?
Can you scan the 2 graphs and post them up for comparison ?

A 97 UK turbo runs a TD04 turbocharger, to reach 250bhp it would need to peak at 1.2 bar and run 1.1 normally, somewhat higher than .6 bar.

I had a weird one to that I posted about 6 months ago. Had a power run saying 289bhp then another with someone else saying it had 232bhp so I got them to fit and map a Apexi power Fc uprated fuel pump and plugs. Came out at 280bhp 1.3bar then. Dont really get it myself. People say every dyno is different but I think something aint right. I have hks headers. hks straight through de cat. apexi filter. denso plugs. walbo 255 fuel pump and the power Fc.

If your still running 380cc injectors, then that would be about right!

Yeah, I have the same spec (albeit with OEM headers and NGK PFR7B plugs) and mine made 281.8bhp at 1.3bar on the std TD05, Sti v.2 TMIC and 380s... as have many other people's cars.

280 is bang on.

Could be the first time, you were quoted flywheel bhp... and the second time, wheel bhp (as the figures are in the right ball-park)...

For reference, my fly bhp is 282... and the wheel bhp, 243.

Ajec Racing - says it all really.

Before you do anything else take your car to somewhere that knows what they are doing like Powerstation for example.

There's some truly shocking stories about Ajec

According to the mapped it was at the Fly wheel both times. Seems a lot of money spent just to get to standard STI power.

But now I have no HP as my engine has blown up. Lost nearly all compression in cylinder 2.
Was told it needs to be forged running that sort of boost. And more than likely have a hole in the piston. Time to fix and sell me thinks.
