If your car has the phase 2 engine(post 97), a blitz bov may cause problems with idle and airflow as well. I had one on my my 99 wrx and was leaking badly, changed it back to the stock. I think the best bov for Imprezas is the HKS

I have a Blitz BOV on a MY00. They are quite loud but I think they are just right. And they have the best sound IMHO.

They do not leak! What could cause them to leak is when people take them apart to clean them,(cos the piston can get sticky with moisture). Instead of using WD40 spray and a rag, they get sand paper and clean it. If you use sand paper to clean the piston and the cylinder of the BOV it takes meat off it, hence the leak. WD40 and a rag is all you need.

Mines been on for a year and a half. No problems with idling or anything. When you notice that they get slightly softer in sound, they need a clean. If you don't clean it, then the sound gets even softer and the piston tends to stick, then the idle will be irregular. You then need an air gun to push the piston out by blowing into it from the top pipe. If you clean regularly, say every six months the piston comes out easy by removing the ciclip.

Cheers,

Wrexy.

AFAIK, it's probably the turbo spinning up, mine does it as well, quite loud, but I have a d/p fitted as well. Also fitted is a Blitz bov, top piece of kit, you can alter the sound it makes, by turning the allen key on top of the unit. Basically it's either a Whooshy growl or a sharp Whoosh. Whatever noise it makes
it certainly gets ya noticed also gives walkers and cyclists a bit of a fright especially now I've a Nur SpecR fitted!!
