I can't really say whats the best oil to use but I use Mobil 1 Motorsport 15w/50 fully synthetic oil in my classic 96 and that works well for me. I usually change the oil every 3000-3500 miles as it's my daily driver. Thats one option for you anyway. Gareth

Don't know about that to be honest, mines done 76,000 miles (around 8k year) but it was re-built professionally around 9000 odd miles ago. My mate uses Shell Helix 10W40 fully synthetic I think? in his 98 Impreza that's had a re-build to. I know you can buy specifc high mileage oil but I've never heard of fully synthetic being for higher mileage cars.
Either way you should put the best oil you can in your Scoob regardless of the miles you drive etc as it is the life blood of the engine. Just found this description about Mobil1 15w/50 fully synthetic oil on a web site;
Mobil 1 15W-50 is formulated with SuperSyn, an extra high-viscosity synthetic fluid, plus extra anti-wear additive to provide extra protection for severe service applications. Mobil 1 15W-50 is recommended for high performance vehicles including turbocharged and supercharged engines where a thicker oil film is desired. Mobil 1 15W-50 is also recommended for older valve train designs that may benefit from a higher level of anti-wear normally not required for newer generation vehicles. Mobil 1 15W-50 will also provide better anti-wear protection for higher valve spring tensions in certain racing engines.
Mobil 1 15W-50 is recommended for all types of modern vehicles, including high-performance turbo-charged, supercharged gasoline and diesel multi-valve fuel injected engines found in passenger cars, SUVs, light vans and trucks.
Hope thats helped in some way. :-)

Theres a guy called oilman who posts threads on all the subaru based forums from a company called OPIE OILS,just google it.He is the car oil guru and usually recomends silkolene or motul oil.These brands are the very top end of oil technology,but whats a few extra quid compared to the price of a engine.They have a service on the site to recommend a oil for your paticular car...

10w60 ive heard is better for track days as you are running high temperatures as this is going to be used on the road and not doing many miles be better with 10w40 but its not my car so we can only recommend what our ideal oil would be.

true.. for the temperatures reached on the road 10w/60 is not needed and is a good oil for track days, it is no thicker than 10w/40.. when i tried it first i personally thought the car was running alot smoother and it doesnt get a slight ticking noise that i have got from some other oils ive used... i think oil is always a personal preference, also good to see what other people think
