Wrx sti ra boost cutting out/power loss
Hi, my 95 wrx sti ra v2 keeps loosing boost and cutting out when you floor it. Have not had it that long, so do not know much about them, but has a boost guage usually boosts just over 1.0 bar (is this toomuch, is suposed to be standard) but dropps down to 0.5 and it jerks about a bit. Has done it the last 2 times i have driven it, the last time the engine cut out for a second too. Can anybody help, have i got a bad car or is it something stupid ive overlooked?
Thanks
James

My car is supposed to be standard, it has got a standard air box. Do you know what the standard boost is or how to tell it has been chipped? Or is there another reason it will be overboosting, it does feel like the ecu goes limp home though afterr the boost goes up.

not too sure what std boost is and still having problems with mine, if i find any thing ill let u know, also try checking ur boost pipes and and clips as they sometimes come loose which lead to sudden loss of boost under load....
let me know if u get it sorted m8..
good luck

Right then think I might of found the problem!!! I read an article in this months Practical Performance Car, it said the boost solenoid can stick and cause similar symptoms. All it needs is cleaning.
So today I gave the boost solenoid and associated pipework a good clean was full of gunk. It held boost all afternoon, when i went out for a long drive. But when i got in the car later it was sticking again. Think it might be buggered, have found one on ebay nearby will pick it up tomorrow. It comes with the map sensor too which can fail too, and apparently causes the fuel to cut and hence the loss engine revs on full boost. So will replace them both and see what happens!

Thank you ginge2719! At last some actual practical advice, and a recommendation for an actual scoobie specialist nearish to my house!
Anyway, have changed the map sensor and solenoid from one out of big bin of marked solenoids (ebay advert says unused from japan direct parts), now it holds boost most of the time but still does the same fault! Think I've prob bought another shagged map sensor! I will be straight off to mansfield tomorrow morning! Plus its an awsome drive from manchester (glossop-->A624-->A623)!
Seriously, thanks ginge!!!

Have been to scoobie clinic, is amazing! Guys were really nice, watched an RB5 do a power run on the rollers and saw some amazing cars, inc 3 22B's! Have dropped my car off for them to sort it out, and get an alarm/turbo timer, service, an oil cooler and a remap to 99 Vpower. Cant wait to get it back!
