Exclamation IS THERE AN UNDER-BONNET SCOOP MOD... ???

I have a 1993 WRX with the slanty IC.

I have recently fitted the MY97/98 'squarer' headlights and the MY99/00 front grille. This obviously leaves that nasty gap between the tops of the lights and the bonnet.

I know I can fit a MY97/98 or MY99/00 facelift bonnet (which I want to!) for everything to be perfect, but the under-boonet scoop isn't designed for the early slanty IC (chances are that the air could flow over it, rather than actually through it! ).

Is there a known mod that can be done to make the scoop flow air through the slanty IC, or is the scoop totally not in the correct place for it anyway, etc...?

Ha. I want to actually get a FMIC later on (in which case I can fit the bonnet anyway, regardless)...

...BUT... I wanted to fit the bonnet BEFORE getting the FMIC, so would need to know if it'll work with the slanty IC in the interim period.

Ive recently changed my bonnet lights etc and had the same concerns.
Im planning to fit a straight top mount shortly and theres a good guide on here for that.

Any way what I was going to say was - I spoke to the guys at RPE and they didint seem to think that there would be any porb with thge new tray or even leaving it off as the air would pass into the right area anyhow.

Just as a precaution Ive fitted a couple of mini splitters to the top of the intercooler itself just to get a bit more air in.
Ive been running the car with only the new tray and slnty cooler for a few weeks now (quick-ish road conditions) and dont seem to havbe had any probs.

Im sure that it isnt ideal but thats what ive found.

Cheers mate.

It looks like it'll be easier for me to simply fit the bonnet AFTER I get a FMIC. That way I ain't gotta worry about it lol... Just gotta be a bit more patient.

You should just be able to take the scoop undertray off of your current bonnet and fit it to the newer one.

Scoop is larger on the facelift bonnet, so I don't think the early undertray would fit.

Most of the difference is in the actual height of the scoop though, not much in width.

Although I've never compared the two bonnets side by side, but I would have thought the early under tray would fully cover the entry of the scoop, maybe need some modifying to fit if the mounting area is bigger though, just my hunch however

Ive been thru this not long ago, some may recall my fan setup threads :-)

anyhoo, you DO need the undertray, believe me so dont just take it off and assume air will still go thru it EFFICEINTLY !!

you should be able to adapt it to fit, put it this way,i have just adapted a 2003 scoop undertray to fit my 95 classic bonnet,so anything is possible, you just gotta have some tin snips and some patience
