Cant notice the difference between these two really... I use both, but mostly tesco's 99. I'm running a remap on my import Classic Sti (Apexi FC/Ecu). Optimax maybe has the edge as seems a tiny bit smoother - but only very marginally. See what your tuner says and is happy with you using after the remap.

i will be using jgm in the future but i thought with tesco being a higher ron rating it may possibly put out more power. jgm will know best but i always used tescos

I doubt theres a noticeable difference between vpower and tesco, both 99 ron. I stand to be corrected by a mapper if there is a difference

i thought v power was 98 ron that i heard. thats why i always have used tescos but with shell being a direct fuel supplier i can see them making better quality fuel an might reset my ecu to learn on this few until my remap

Id go with which is easier to buy, we struggle to get v power around my way so its 99 all day.

i had mine remapped on Tesco, mainly as its easier for me to get hold of, usually a tiny bit cheaper, plus clubcard points!

But as stated, there prbably isnt anything in them anyways!

Legacytt v-power isn't 100 ron (shame).

It is 'more or less 99 ron' as for Tesco 99 'its more or less' the same. If you have your car mapped for Shell v-power you can also use Tesco 99 with no problems (make sure it is 99 as they also supply SUL97 ron). As said previously use whichever is easiest to get near you or indeed on your journey. Worth keeping some octane booster in your car just in case you get stranded and have to use SUL, but don't use BP Ultimate

My 98 classics mapped on Bp ultimate with 440s, sports cat, Vf34, walboro, etc etc an only made 289bhp and 270lbs of torque. Various tuners have described this output as modest! an having looked at similar specs of cars that have been mapped on V power or tescos and their figures im afraid their right...... Ive got magnex headers an a kakumei uppipe to go on an ill be using V power or tescos for the next map. Tuners dont seem to rate Bp ultimate I choose it because I thought all brands or super type petrol were the similar. Plus the fact my closest garage does Bp ultimate

I always run on Shell V-Power. Great stuff.
I don't think it's all about Ron though either, after all Shell don't even advertise there Ron levels, different company's use different additives/chemicals etc and for this I think that Shell is better than any Tesco fuel.

BP Ultimate can cause knock and you really don't want that! Many of the mappers on here will advise not to use BP Ultimate. As for a higher rated fuel it's BP 102 your probably thinking of. There aren't that many forecourts that stock the stuff so you would need to plan your journeys very carefully!! Not only is it hard to find I think it's over £2 a litre

I second that. I heard that its as much about the chemicals used as the RON. I only use tescos if I cant get to a shell.

yea i suppose higher ron will be dearer an not worth driving for. went to isle of man 3 yr ago for tt an the forcourts were normal price but in the paddocks they had to pay for fuel at a pump. it was 1.50p a litre an that was then. must of been a high ron grade in the bikes
