Default How can you tell if you have a remapped ECU?

Hi,

Is there anyway (other than paper/receipt) to tell if your ECU has been remapped by a previous owner?

For example if it is Ecutek'd does it have a sticker or something?

Cheers,

So I would have to have a mapper plug into the ECU... No way just to tell visually?

There are no visual clues to let you know if an ECU has been EcuTeK mapped .. LOL

All EcuTeK mappers keep records of the cars they have mapped......

It is possible to determine with certainty whether or not a particular ECU has a TeK licence on it by examining a specific block of its firmware code - although in order to do that you need to download the entire ROM and look at it in a hex editor, or query the appropriate part of it via a block memory read command. To do either you'll need a diagnostic link and some sort of Select Monitor emulator

If any of this makes perfect sense to you then chances are you can do it yourself. If it sounds like double-dutch, you'll probably have to take the ECU to a mapper and have them interrogate it for you.

If you're asking because, for example, someone is selling an ECU that is advertised as having a licence on it, and you're not sure whether you're being fed a line, just ask the seller who mapped it. If everything's legit there's no reason why they shouldn't give you the info, and then it's a case of a quick phonecall to the mapper to confirm.
