Default Remap or not??

Hiya

Please can I have some advice. Is it safe to run a Type R V3 on the Standard ECU without a remap.

I always fill with Shell V-Power or Tesco 99.

Mods include a decat downpipe, Apexi Air Filter, and stainless steel headers.

Should I be adding Octane booster.

There are so many mixed views out there and really would appreciate some advice.

at least get it dyno'd before you give it large to make sure its not cocked up the AFR.

with that amount of changes you could also hit boost/fuel cut if it can't cope.

get it dyno'd and if its fine then you don't need a map, but if its not then you'll know. also in winter you may get issues due to the colder air.

changing the headers etc then it wouldn't surprise me at all if it did need mapping.

a check on a dyno is cheaper than a new engine!

yes its perfectly fine to run on v-power/tesco without remap. Its very unlikely to have been set up for 100+ octane fuel from factory as the fuel wasnt available in Japan till mid 1998

Is it an STI? If its a WRX I wouldnt worry with those mods as long as its run on V-Power. AFAIK it was Mid 96 when japan got 100 Octane.

i meant to say wasnt 'widely' available till mid 98 it was first introduced to japan in sept 96 iirc which is probably the reason mappable ecus werent introduced till the late 1998 (MY99) model impreza

so my contact in Japan tells me anyway

Hows that? If its the same engine, why would it need remaping?

tbh i'd have one if part of the engine is rebuilt.

y risk it? cost you 500 to map it, yet could cost 2.5k to not have it mapped if all goes **** up.

Wish it would cost 500, apparently I'm looking at over a grand!

But like you say why risk it.

This MY requires an aftermarket ECU for a Remap at the cost of around £1K. Sorry, but to suggest that he needs a remap after a bottom end rebuild is complete and utter tosh IMO.
