Weird one with MAF
I have a problem with my orange label MAF on an MY97 WRX. I unplugged the MAF while the engine was running but the car did not cut out. I then did an ecu reset and checked the fault codes but none have shown up! Thinkin that the reset had cured the fault I unplugged the MAF again but still no stall, What does this signify????
Thanks in advance, Jonny

Not sure about the orange label MY97/98 ones... or the different cassette style MY99/00 ones? I think - although might be wrong - that the voltage is reversed for the later ones i.e. 5V idle; 1V WOT (?).

Right, just done some testing at dinner time and found the following:
1v at idle +/- .3 volts
4v max at WOT.
Bearing in mind today is cold and wet and the max revs I hit was 6k in 2nd gear, Does this sound right? The voltage increased consistantly with the revs.

Idle's fine.
WOT normally goes to 4.5 - 5.0V, so don't know whether 'only' 4V will be telling the ECU to fuel enough
Try seeing what the WOT voltage is at max revs in 4th (on the motorway) and possibly 5th (keep eyes peeled for rozzers, obviously). If it doesn't get to 4.5+V, then might be best to invest in another MAF - rather than potentially £2+ k for a new engine! Just a thought...

I guess this is a bit of a catch 22 situation in that if it is fooked I could blow the engine testing the MAF LOL. I think I need some specific values for an orange label MAF before blowing £280 quid on a new one though. I might try refitting the resonator and see if that affects the top end reading. Thanks for the help.

PM/email JGM - I'm 99.99% certain Simon will know the correct voltage range for your MAF (he might be able to confirm if 4V is okay for the correct fuelling at max revs/WOT anyway, etc...)
