Default New engine time...

Hi guys,
I’ve got a 2003 WRX, which has developed a banging in the bottom of the engine. I’ve taken it to a couple of local places who’ve both confirmed it’s a gonner.

I’ve never had to deal with this kind of thing before so don’t know how much I should be paying, whether to a rebuild what I have (it’s done 47K) vs. getting a re-con, or who I should use to do the work (I’m based in London).

If anyone can help it would be brilliant.
Cheers,
Phil

Contact David @ Api, his company builds many subaru engines a week. They are based just outside Leamington, near Warwick.

I had your problem with an 03 WRX going rattle and David (API) made me a spangly new 2.5l bottom end (just when the exchange rate was in my favour I'm pleased to say) with forged internals and it goes like a train. The gearbox is hanging on by the skin of its teeth but it is a different car form what went in.

Another recommendation would be Zen at Wellingborough.

I would personally go for a rebuilt by one of the above trusted people. I have had recond engines which have had no compression i.e. Gasket failures, ring failures, taking me back to where i started.

Stay safe and pay for a rebuild not just an engine which has had some silver spray.

Good Luck and keep us posted as we do like feedback on the old threads.
