Who does the engine rebuilds?
Just curious really who does the main forged engine rebuilds?
It seems it's API for the 2.5 forged conversions
Engine Tuner for the 2.1 Stroker forged conversions
Who else is there??

Cheers guys.
Who are the specialists though? And good ones at that. Me and my mate will be going down the forged route soon. Him a lot sooner than me, and on here I've only really read about API and Engine Tuner.

Just thought. How about buying a complete block with all forged internals, and maybe heads, then get a capable local garage to fit it?
Also, whats all the open/closed/semi-closed block about?
Cheers

dont do that just get a good recomended garge of here to do the rebuild and fit, close deck is good for real high bosst prseure so they say and semi deck is the in between and open deck has big open water ways, but 400bhp is the tops with an open deck really, but im sure there are guys on here which will give you more tech advise but just speak to the garage of choice about this and test them as an open deck will not be good for over 400bhp really

Alan Jeffery at Engine Tuner will bung your built engine on a pallet, and you can drop the whole thing straight in yourself...
HTH
dunx
P.S. His 2.1 uses the 2.5 crank in your block, so no liners needed, cdb would only be needed for 500+ bhp.

What does a CDB consist of? Would it not be worth doing for when/if you go down the 500+ route? Rather than doing the job twice?
Me and my mate were just discussing about getting a complete engine say from Lateral (as example), getting it delivered, then getting it put in the car, all the ancillaries swapped over etc, remap, and bob's your uncle! Then sell on the old engine?!

Why do people go for open deck blocks over closed? Or is it because they use their original open deck and forge that, rather than buying a new closed deck for a lot more money?

To be fair 500+ and your also look at ppg boxes, uprated diffs, nasty clutches that make a day to day car a bit of a pain. Your as well to spend the money on a normal 2.5 bottom end have your heads remachined and some decent cc injectors ,20gturbo and a decent 6speed from API. That'll be good for 380-400 safely. Also go for the 2.5 if its a day to day car as a) it gives you good low end torque and b) means its economical when going round town etc.
Just my 2 penneth.

How about a totally off the wall and random suggestion...
Do It Yourself.
The actual construction of the engine isn't rocket science as long as you are careful and don't try to rush it. Plus you've got the added benefits of having learnt something and the pride in having built it yourself.

That's what I've done.
Fine when building a standard forged engine. Things get tricky when you go all Gucci with it as I am finding out. I'm currently mid way through a 600bhp Type R build. The car was orginally bought as an accident damaged shell. It's now being built with a Closed Deck, forged 2.5, rotated GT35R etc.
At times its felt like i've bitten off more than i can chew. If you can afford it I'd say you're better off taking it to a well known tuning company and let them do it. Less stressful, by far although not as rewarding.

I would love to do it myself as a project, but don't have a driveway or garage. Plus I need my car everyday....so would have to buy a run around etc.

Mind you, you could always buy another block to rebuild in the kitchen (as long as it's degreased prior to it going indoors its perfectly hygenic!!) on an engine stand........ I didn't suggest that by the way if your other half/parent/housemates massively object..
Daz - do you find its issues with the maths of increased stroke/bore, compression ratios and crazy turbo flow graphs that are making it a struggle? (as these are the things that now scare me!)
