what he said^ same applies to every car really..heat soak isnt good.
when you fit a fmic, youve gotta get an induction kit for it all to fit...but the charge created is going to get cooled before it gets to the engine.
cooler the charge temp, the better

What you need is a cold air feed, mine comes from where the front fog light was...
I run the feed direct into the air filter, no resonator box left in the wing, and I've also modified the factory feed to privide more air...
I've also fitted an SPT heatshield which you might just be able to make out...

What you want is a box that the air flows through which shields heat. That's what the standard air box does. But obviously the induction kits that sit in the wing will be better still.
Another option is just buying a regular induction kit, building a box around it in the engine bay from heatproof material, and then running a cold air feed from the wing etc straight into the box with a seal.
Having a cone sitting open in the engine bay is a bit of a backwards step to be honest.

cheers for the comments guys.so would i be better joining mine to the original pipe that comes up from inside the wing then hot air cant be directly sucked in cos it would be sealed.not sure where pipe in wing goes to though.

You can either get a pipe that just connects the 2 together, or possibly easier, is remove the box in the wing and run a hose from the induction kit down to the front of the car and draw air in from there
