funny cold idle, possible no fans
hi guys,
my 93 wrx does not idle very well when its cold. it hunts. then when you pull up at a junction the revs drop to about 500rpm.
once hot the car runs fine and idle is a nice 800ish rpm.
ive also not heard the fans kick in for months (they work when ac is on), even after a hard run and leaving it to tick over (temp gauge never budges above norm though, and the coolant system is healthy as i have new coolant and new 1.1bar rad cap - maybe its just doing its job and the fans dont need to kick in?) they used to kick in after a hard run.
Im thinking maybe the coolant temperature sensor is duff.
what do you think?
thanks
andy

defo sounds like temp sensor, I had similar simptoms & even worse than usual fuel economy (? ha ha )
Its an easy job to change it, looks much worse than it is, just pull off a couple of plastic & rubber hoses to get access then an open-ended spanner & Bob's your uncle....... prepare to scrape your hands though unless you can find a small child to do this bit for yah !
