Angry My engines developed a noise :(

Well my engine started ticking this morning
My heart sank as my last car went to the scrapheap in the sky due to bottom end failure,

I'm hoping thats not what this is as the noise seems intermitent i.e not always there,

Its like a ticking sound that goes away when reved,
what can cause ticking in the engine bay please?

Someone mentioned a boost selanoid etc,

Is this a likely candidate?

any help appreciated

Cheers
Ste

I may be the bottom end as it doesn't always knock, mine only knocked around 1000 RPM and was down to bottom end failure, hope its not this in your case other wise you have a big job on your hands, wait in till the experts come on and they will give you a better explanation as im new to this as i just rebuilt my 99UK using a 95 short block as i couldn't find a 99 lol anyway hope you get it sorted,

I know what your saying but it doesn't sound like a knock,
More like an injector noise, just louder lol
It comes and goes at different revs...

My last car spun a shell and the noise was pretty obvious lol
Just hope it isn't as i really can't be **** to rebuild it

i get a slight ticking noise between 1000-1500 rpm, sounds simular to the problem you have but dont no what is causing it either. the sound is coming from the drivers side near the air filter but just cant work out what is causing it

What year is the Car's?

It sounds like it could be early ones, which use Hydraulic lifters, and the lifter could be sticking.

This can sound like Injector noise.

You can flush it, but it does not always cure the problem... But if it is hydraulics, it is not just going to die on you.... I know of a few that's been ticking for 3-4 years now.... bit like the old ford cvh's

If you are going to drop the oil, let it drain through a fine clean cloth, you will be able to check for copper debris, that would indicate big end failure.

I would say it's a sticking lifter, my old motor did the same. Bottom end was solid.....

Could also be an idler with a dodgy bearing.
