Default Best way for 450/450

What is the best and safest way to get 450/450 as im planning ahead for when the engine gives up! Car is a v3 type r. Was thinking 2.5 as i want to build (have built) it once and once only as its going to be expensive

2.1 or 2.5 2.1 is the cheaper option.

Lol, Millzy, it might suprise and not melt you know...

I,d go 2.5 tbh MD series turbo, simtek , 6 speed box etc..

You,ll need 10-15k imo with box & labour charges...

Yeah thats what i was expecting. Dont really want 6 speed though. Agree with the md series probably the md321t but wanted to keep the power fc. Anyone running this power with the maf still?

Yeah thats what i was going for but 10 to 15 is a bit much for me! Im sure if i use my block and heads but rebuild and stroke it using a ppg box and md turbo i should get it done for about 6-7 hopefully. The problem is that i love the classic shape but they have engines made out of cheese!

Everything has gone up in price so you have to factor that in but Pete estimate is about right. I have run around 450 bhp with my version 3 sti maf and was advised it still had a little headroom, so the power fc will be fine at that level.

Stevo210 had a 2.5 dropped into his type-r, making around 300+ bhp and 400 ft.lb. of torque, and it ate his gearbox and rear diff for breakfast....

2.1 + MD + PPG should do !

imho

Agree,
2.1 can be had for 1.9k
PPG gearbox 3k
SC50 direct fit bolt on turbo 1.4k
Clutch and flywheel 1k
Simtek ecu fitted and mapped 1.2k

Labour??? Do it yourself and save a lot of money

Most engine builders won't warranty an engine unless they did ALL the work on it !

imho

mapper blames engine builder who blames the owner.... etc.,etc.

Yeah fair enough i can understand that thats why im gonna get it all done at mocom probably as he is on my doorstep. Want to try and get it all done for around 6k even if it means leaving the turbo for a bit. As long as i can get the engine and box including clutch and flywheel then i can muck about with bits after

At that power you will need a twin plate clutch, unless you buy 2nd hand you are looking at £1k+ for that alone before you factor in the PPG box.

I think it is worth commenting that it is worth getting new parts for all the littler things.. cambelt & tensioners, water pump, oil pump, gaskets, stud/bolts, plugs, fuel pump/fpr/parallel delivery etc. These will all add up very quickly....

PPG built was 2k for the gearset, then you need to add on the additional costs like donor 754 (if you have a TY752) casing, selector forks, essential bearings etc. Will cost you 3k minimum plus labour to build.

1k plus for twin plate and flywheel.

So 4k plus for drivetrain.

That said... 450/450 is a classic R is a hoot! Should have taken you out in mine when I saw you at Mocom.

I'm contemplating going rotated later this year so may have md321t (covered <10k), Samco 76mm inlet, 3" downpipe for sale later.... we'll see...
