going 2.5 forged!
hi there
I currently have a 2005 sti running a mdxt and other supported mods. im not really happy with the spool and low down grunt of the car...*
im really wanting a fast point to point road car with maybe a track day or 2 a year. will a 2.5 be better for my needs over the 2.1??*
as I understand the 2.1 is alot stronger. but I dont want to change turbo so surely the 2.5 would handle 450/450?? as a road car....
any advise would be much appreciated. also pricing please? and could I sell any of my engine to help pay for it..

I read the thread yesterday where the general consensus was that a 2.5 forged can handle 500/500. The 2.1 is the usual choice due to the 2.35 being that much more expensive but both of them are very strong (just more torque from the 2.35).
I haven't had any of the above but that is what I seem to have read on here numerous times. Sounds like a recipe for something special either way mate!

What you need is a 2.6 stoker ;-) Ive built one for my Bug JDM STI, its on a running in map at the moment and waiting to fit some bigger injectors. at the moment its running 350/400 on actuator pressure (1.2bar) at 4500rpm. I will run a project thread asap. The engine may be for sale, if I don't sell the whole car?
As a rule of thumb with the 2.5 engines you will see around 10% more torque than bhp eg a 2.0 running 400bhp will be around 370ftlbs, a 2.1 400ftlbs and a 2.5 440ftlbs.

I'm sure I've seen a 2.35 for sale recently on here for £2500 I am sure.
Your SCB complete bottom end will probably fetch between £600-£1200 depending on mileage and condition. People like to see things such as service intervals and oil changes to prove the engine is sound if you sell it once removed. Best to try and sell whilst as is, then it can be heard, seen and felt.
My understanding is a 2.1 is the easiest route to go down if you have a 2.0 engine already, where as the 2.5 isn't more difficult, it just means you need to source a used or buy new block halves, so from the 2.5 point of view it usually easier to buy a 2.5 engine complete and fit forged rods and pistons, but then unless pinned its only good for 450/450.....

ideally id like to buy a 2.5 lump already forged with all paperwork etc so I know its been done correctly.
my engine has done 53k with full sh... if any wants to make a offer??
wheres this 2.35 mate???

I wouldnt buy a 2nd hand engine and just expect to drop it in, you will want to whip the sump and heads off to inspect it and do the HG's, belts etc.
Only ever buy an engine with a view of rebuilding it. Because you just honestly dont know the life it has had etc

If your buying from someone trusted with confidence then I wouldn't hesitate to take the goods as described, and simply drop it in.
Engines, gearboxes, turbos, brakes, coilovers etc, we've all bought these and dropped them straight in, yes some get unlucky, but at the end of the day if your buying 2nd hand it's because you can't afford new, or because your looking to save and gain elsewhere with your hard earned cash. Not knowing Banny position, the engine Banny now has I'd expect a bill of around at least 4.5-5k build, it's a snip at the price advertised and if in excellent condition will then permit Banny to move forward on other stuff with the 3k saved.
Buying a 2nd hand long engine that been recently built or recently had anew timing belt (assume Craig does) to then take the heads off for inspection will cost a further £1000 in labour and products for sure, it soon stacks up for those looking to save a few quid.
Anyway best of luck to your search Craig, and look forward to seeing your result Banny, although I am getting a sense of dayjavoo.

forged 2.5 is an epic engine, low down grutn is awesome strap an sc46+ to it and o my.
here's my old one which was still running standard ecu and top mount so boost limited.

I have built loads of 2.5's, one Hawk last year fitted with an SC46 made 445/475, pretty nippy :-) I can build you a 2.5, certainly got a large variety of parts available, PX with your old engine no problem, drop me a pm and we can talk numbers.
