20 kg isn't that heavy. I'd say that was about right from when I had mine out. But that's only going off a gestimation.

Cheers chaps. The new age at 1,470 kg is a bloody heavy weight!

The seats and spoilers do not help. I've seen some good light weight seats which weigh less than 4kg (each seat) - that will automatically take off quite a few kg's.

Any ideas on what the rear spoiler on a new age Sti 8 weighs??

Windows are another option as well as doors!

I have just weighed one on the bathroom scales and it came up as 3stone 2lbs, I couldn't work out how to change the scales to kilos. They are heavy I know that.

do wonder how much the bloody great big wing weighs myself, don't fancy a "fast and furious" / time attack style wing though.

OMG I don't know whether to say:

1) You nerds (Dunx - you get no1 nerdy prize!) ; or

2) A big thanks!

20kg for each front seat x 2 = 40kgs!

Where as the seats Im looking at are:

2.75kg each x 2 = 5.5 kgs

Thus savings of 34.5kg?

Does anyone know what the spoiler weighs? I heard around 40kg?

If 20kg does equate to a 5bhp loss then turning to standardish 7kg fixed seats is a huge filip. 26kg saving! I've Just taken out the spare wheel, fixings and jack and that was almost 16kg! 42kg saving which is 10bhp! Next is the aircon for another 15-20kg ish.

I would have thought the spoiler was only 10ish?

Just stripped my 03STi out for track.

Weights in kg of lots of bits as follows:

Steering wheel 2.6
Rear seat base 3.9
Rear seat back 8.6
Rear seat belts 3.4
interior trim 8.6 bloody bags of it in my loft, not stripped doors yet.
Parcel shelf 1.0
NS front seat 17.3
OS front seat 17.8
Carpet 4.0
Front sesat belts 4.1
Rear seat brace 3.2
Roof trim & lining 6.0
OE rims weigh12kg, lightweight wheels (eg PFF7) weigh 8kg so 16kg saving for 4
OE brembo discs 10kg, AP 330mm discs on bells 8kg so 4kg saving for 2
Last 2 items take 6kg unsprung weigt out of front wheels
Add back lightweight seats (9kg), s/wheel and rollcage (28kg)

Overall saving 53.4kg, taking out jack and spare wheel saves about another 20kg.

Poke 2.2 ohm resistors from Maplin into airbag and seatbelt tensioner plugs to make airbag light stay off.

PS Seats aand STi OE 15" airbag steering wheel for sale.

Excellent post mate - really useful info for anyone wanting to put their old girl on a diet! I'm just about to fit some recaro pole positions in place of OEM seats on an 03STI. They weigh in at 15kg for the pair, so that's 20kg lost and nicer seats to boot

Wow that's a decent write up D1CCY. I now know what's worth taking out when going on the track or up the pod! Thanks

D1CCY - Superb write up as this will be very useful for all! Shows that between the Spoiler, Front 2 seats, Jack and Spare Wheel there is a room to save circa 60 kg! I am tempted with the A/C but being a creature of comfort I may hold back on this!

What are you going to replace it with (if anything)?

Duncan's spolier is a bit extreme for me, I think the type 25 spolier might be worth a look. I have no idea how much it weighs or cost though.

Am not sure at this stage- all I know is they are supposedly easy to take off - a few nuts/bolts. I don't think I will be going (as good as they are I'm sure) for the hangglider ones!

JP4, yes I've left my air con in place for now as well. Will post weights if I take anything more off. oh PS two bits of undertray 3.0kg, also saves time on oil changes!!

Spoiler may weigh a bit but I have a mate that took his off before going drag racing and he said it was all over the place on the motorway at 70 (cough) so a lightweight replacement is necessary if you take that route.

I was hoping to get more like 100kg out but am well short.

D1ccy - I believe the spoiler is there for drag reasons and hence it may be the reason your m8 had that experience. Mine will be going back on as soon as I finish running her unless I use a trailer.

Also you thought about replacing your std windows?

I finally took the spare wheel out of my boot as it's no use to me as it won't fit over my brakes and the wheel alone is 2stone 3lbs.
