Default 10w40 or 10w60

Wanting to change my oil soon.

I've currently got 10w40 in, but I'm soon to be going just over 400bhp.

I do short journeys to work most days, and have an enthusiastic right foot on weekends. Although I've never done a track day.....

So what you think?

Cheers

After doing a bit of research I have just switched to Castrol RS 10w60 - you can currently pick this up cheap as old stock now castrol call it 'edge' (I understand it's the same oil, just a different colour can and new name)

Car is a pretty standard 04wrx, only used at weekends but starting to use it on trackdays now.

With the sort of driving you do, I'd stay with a 10/40 but switch to full synthetic such as Millers CFS 10w/40

Motul 300V 10w40 would be my choice. Used to run 15w50 but on 10w40 now.

Thats about the going rate. Can probably do 10% off if you drop me a PM.

Motul isn't the cheapest but it is very good stuff and lasts.

They come in 2ltr tins. If you buy 6 litres you will have plenty left over for top ups and probably enough to only buy 2 tins the next time.

Cool, thanks guys.

I put Millers CFS in last time actually, so was going to get it again, as it wasn't too badly priced........5L for around £50ish.

I've used nothing but Motul 10w40 300v since the car was run in at 6k miles. Now at 46k ~350bhp for most of that. Changed every 5-6k and in my case worth every penny.

We do a lot of >5 mile journeys, but like you I do give it some when ever possible.

FWIW, my oil's up to temp in around 5 mins (unless really cold ambient when it's more like 10 min) and I've never seen much over 100c. No track work however..!

When you say "up to temp" what figure are you considering?
I take 80c+ as up to temp. Takes me more than 5 min. to get to that!

Stick with it. Arguably, it's as good as anything.

P.S. I have a much better oil pressure at tick-over when hot now, 3 bar against 1.5 bar on the tired 10w-40 that was dumped last month.

Im sitting in the middle and using silkolene 10/50. I find it to be good although maybe doesnt get hot enough according to my guage. I see about 75 c when cruising or giving it some. The only time it gets hotter than that is when the cars idleing for any length of time and it then maybe gets to 90 c.

John, yes 80c.

As soon as water temp gauge hits it's usual position, (ie just below halfway) the oil temp starts to move up and within a few mins is at or very near to 80c..

A very hot tick over pressure for me is just over 2 bar. Usual tick over pressure 2.8-3.0bar.

As pointed out before, I don't do any track work, so that make a huge difference IMO.

As long as the label states that it's 3-ester formula it'll be ok. According to their site, it seems they've updated the label again.
As you can see, the CFS range is over £52 for 5litres
Don't forget to prime the oil filter
