Default Classic Impreza Radiator Advice 2000 WRX model

Hi all,

I have recently found problem wiv the radiator on the impreza ( side plastic tank split, common i believe causing overheating and cold air through internal air vents). I have removed the old radiator and purchased a new original one from ebay and it is now ready to fit however i hav never change a radiator and have a few queries.

1) Do i need to flush out the system entirely first ( i noticed that when i removed the radiator the smaller plastic tank near the passenger wing was letting out coolant which seemed to go on forever ) and if i do flush it how do i do that?
2)once the flushing has been done and radiator fitted, how do i fill the impreza up ( i know its 50/50 ) but does that mean put 50% water in first then 50% coolant or vice versa or do i mix it altogther first before putting it in ( i have heard that some coolant is already diluted if so do i still use only 50% of this or is it more), also what water do i use, is it distilled?, do i just fill wiv water in the main silver header tank and then just put coolant in the plastic one and also how do i get rid of air etc out the system?

As you can see i have many questions and dont ahve the funds to pay for it doing so wud wanna have a crack at it my self, just need a little help.

many thanks

Done mine about a year ago mate. Let all the water drain out and take the cap of the filler to let air in and it will drain a lot quicker. You could buy some ready mixed water and antifreeze from Hal fords or mix 50/50. Better of using distilled as its not going to cause lime scale ect.
Put 50% water in then top up with 50% antifreeze.
Run the engine for a bit with the cap off to get the air out and top up as needed.
