Theoretically, the smoother porting promotes more laminer - therefore faster - airflow, meaning the turbo spools quicker when applying the throttle.

Should make the turbo spin-up at least 200+ rpm earlier.

i phrased that wrongly. i meant i have bought some ported headers but i dont have the ported up pipe, do you need to run both together to get an advantage or will ported headers work well with a standard up pipe?

Headers on their own are prob the most important in getting the gases out of the engine and flowing well... but a ported up-pipe can only aid this process further.

If you haven't fitted the headers yet, then I'd defo get it done...
