Question Top mount intercooler upgrade

Hi,

I'm looking to upgrade my standard intercooler on MY00 classic UK turbo.
My car has started to feel slow as it gets warmer and I guess the intercooler is just not as efficient as it used to be.......
I just want a replacement top mount but have no idea what I'm looking at so suggestions please
I'm under the impression that modern ones are much more efficient these days- is this right and how much % wise?

i think the oe is good for about 300bhp,i dont think that the intercooler is why your car would feel slow when its warm.

you'll suffer from higher intake temps from as low as 300bhp. you can get any figure you want on a top mount, but when it gets hot they drop like a stone.

unless your running a td04 (standard uk turbo) then front mount is the way to go.

IMO the cars go better in colder weather because the denser air leads to slightly earlier spool and slightly(?) more boost or overboost.

The STI8 IC is not exactly plug and play. You need to fabricate or mutilate mounting brackets to suite, fit a remote brake/clutch fluid reservoir and sort out a bonnet undertray arrangement to seal the scoop to the IC.

It's not rocket science though. A relatively well trodden path....

Bl**dy piccies have all gone from the threads but should illustrate the things that need fettling.

I have to say no matter how big the TMIC is or how effecient it is, its in the wrong place.

Irrespective of size, heat builds up when stationary and it hot air rises heating the IC. Once moving again temps are high for a while which is where the car is most vunerable.

My RA has the stock TMIC but with its VF29 and mapping its over 300HP so a front mount is on the cards at some point.
