Popping on idle when cars on choke!!??
I have a v2 sti impreza. When i start the car from cold the choke comes in as normal. Then after 30 seconds or so the exhaust starts popping asthough there is a misfire. It only happens on choke or when the revs are held at 1500 - 2500rpm. The coil packs have been changed and so have the plugs. Th car drives fine with no probs. Its annoying because i have a 3inch straight through system and it sounds crap when i start it from cold!
it sounds like (brrrrrrrrrrr pop brrrrrrrrrrrrrr pop pop brrr pop brrrrrrrr pop)
Its been mapped to pop on over run and it doesnt do this anymore either!
Any ideas people, its driving me mad!
cheers

When you start your car from cold the ecu will go into a closed loop which adds more fuel to the engine, called the choke in the good ol carburator days
when it has reached a certain temp it will switch to the normal map
it does sound like your car is getting a lot of fuel when in closed loop
perhaps you should take it to the mapper and ask him to check it out
