Default Anyone know how much a thermostat is from the stealers?

Ive noticed some on ebay that are meant to be 'high flow' but im not sure if i trust them so i might just get one from the dealers if they are not to expensive.

^ +1 ZS 71deg opening thermostats are very good indeed.

Worth a call to Kent at EDO Performance as we had a GB with him and the prices were very good.

Thanks guys but i think im just going to try a standard one first as i carnt really afford to spend £50 on a thermostat at the moment as i need to buy other parts too, mine is stuck closed so it just needs replacing.

Cheers James

ZeroSports ones are well worth it mate.

I have one of Lateral's and, as said, it opens at 71deg C (not the OEM 78) and - together with a new pump that was replaced at the same time - my average running temp is 83-86 (only 82! on the motorway)... Right in the sweetspot of the ballpark temps designed for the motor to optimally run at.

Gives peace of mind that there'll be no localised hotspots in the engine through too high temps.

A very worthwhile mod on these stressed engines IMHO...

That's why I suggest the OP to pay the extra and get the uprated ZS performance one (like I did)... May as well get something beneficial from doing it (seeing as the stealers want loads for a basic one, anyhow ).

Plus IIRC, its designed in the event of failure to fail open rather than OEM closed. £50 very well spent in everyway possible.

If that's true, then that's a great in-built safety feature - that should hopefully make the OP's mind up, then.

You sure they are about £50?

Just been on Graham Goode and they are ~£100 on there.

This thermostat isn’t just for modified vehicles; it can benefit even a stock car. The design of this thermostat allows it to open completely in the event of a thermostat failure, the stock thermostat will fail closed and cause the vehicle to overheat.

From memory, I think Lateral's are £48-odd + VAT. And they ARE pukka Zero Sports ones in the nice blue box lol, and come complete with the rubber O-ring (and instructions lol) too.

Ok you have definatly talked me into it, i may aswell pay the extra £20 and get one, i did'nt think the standard one was that much, these cooler jobbies sound like a good safety mod too like you say.

Cheers chaps
