Should they be a charity then?
That's only a 37% profit margin . It isn't unique to Subaru dealers, at the end of the day they're in business.
quite what value they're adding for their slice of the pie is beyond me tho

I agree with the last comment !
Took mine to be valued against a newer Subaru and the trade in offer was very fair against book price and agains the other car.
BUT ! My car has had lots of recent expensive Subaru servicing, tyres, clutch, cambelt etc and with a just a valet they will put on their forecourt at a price comparable with others on the forecourt.
This works out at a profit margin again of 30% !
Assuming they knock a bit off the sticker price for the next buyer, its got to be 25% for nothing.

Not quite for nothing, they will repair chips and scratches plus any other minor faults, they will provide a warranty!
I do not have a problem with dealers making a reasonable profit, that is why they are in business !

you were obviously satisfied with £8k for it so if they think they can get that for it good luck to them.
A few months back I pxed my MY99 at a dealer for £10k. It is now on their forecourt for £12k. But, - front bumper needed spraying, small dent in the roof, bonnet was chipped to f##k, clutch on last legs. To get the car back to the standard it is now would have cost me at least £1k, probably a lot more so I was quite happy with the deal. Also, these cars are not selling very well at the mo so they are bound to be a bit cautious with trade in values. The dealer has now had my old car in stock for 5 months.

they've also got to pay for staff, premises, insurance, tools/equipment etc.
As someone said, as long as you're happy woth the £8k they gave you then why worry.

Yes, I was happy in the long run as it only cost me £600 to change cars. Although I do feel that my car was worth at least £1000 more than I got.
At the end of the day it's someone elses problem now, not mine.
Good luck to them also. The guy I sold it to was spot on!!
I don't think Subaru has done there fans any favours with replacing the classic shap with the Fugly Ugly "Big Eye".
Cheers

£1000 min px, take in an old nail worth nothing, that leaves £2000 profit.
Vat on the difference between buying and selling £525,now down to 1500 profit,
Warranty £300,
Now down to 1200 before any work down on the car,
Did it need a service/Mot/Tyres or any paintwork?
He will probably net £8-900.

Silver Knight,
All the car needed was a re-spray on the bonnet as it had quite a few stone chips. Probably only about £50 to get done by a dealer. The reason I did'nt get it done before I sold it because it was such a genuine car and I didn't want people to get fussy about why the bonnet had been resprayed.
The car had recent tyres and serviced about 3000 miles ago.
Cheers
