Default Where Does Oil Pressure sensor go For fitment of A Gauge

Hey all.
Been thinking of getting a Oil Pressure Gauge for my beloved MY99 STI V5. I've asked my garage and they said I need to find out where the Sensor for it would go.

So my question is where will it need to be fitted and what is a decent accurate Gauge. I've heard Defi are good but expensive.

Sender is either T'd or replaces the OEM one under the alternator at the front/top of the block.

I've got Defi's so can't answer what else is decent.

Ok what does T'D mean. I've had a look at Defis but don't want to be paying 215 quid for a gauge then have to buy the control unit. So Ive seen a few Prosport ones.

Ive already hav a Apexi Boost Gauge but might replace that with a Prosport one. Which i guess would mean having to rewire everything lol.

Anyone had any of these Prosport gauges and does that require a control unit to.

There is a blank above the third pot of the engine that you can fit the oil pressure or oil temp gauge sender in,
or you can use a sandwich plate that fits between the engine and the oil filter,
if your garage don't know about the first option then they don't know anything about Subaru's,
and if they don't know about the second they don't know f*** all,
so i would take the motor somewhere else if i were you.

you can also buy an 'extension hose' with a T piece on it to add a gauge sender AND have the oil pressure switch fitted too
ebay or Alyn at ASP are your friends

Prosports dont require a control unit, decent gauges for the price

I had autometer gauges in my old car MY00 and they were fine IMO. They matched the dash lights pretty well too.

There was a place that supply braided hoses who I was advised to call from here and he knew exactly what I was on about because he said is this for an Impreza oil gauge - not sure what they were called though.

I used the extension hose to attach the sender to one end and a feed from pot 3.

I would like Defis for my current car but I'm not sure they are worth the extra money. I got all 4 of my autometer gauges for less than I paid for the centre dash and a pillar pod. I had boost in the pillar, oil press, oil temp and AFR in the dash.

Someone who knows his onions about subaru engines once said to me - you can get all manner of gauges and widgets but all they are going to tell you is that its already broken. except maybe a knocklink.

For the most accurate reading would it be best to fit the sensor between the Oil filter. If I did this would I need to drain the oil and replendish.

The best place is to use an LMA t-piece and put it in where the low pressure sender is. You need to tip the alternator to get to the original sender, but it is about a 30-minute job.

If you use the blank above cylinder 3 you have to take the intercooler off for access.

Sandwich plates are renowned for leaking

Sandwiches plates are for gayers!

Replace the OEM sender is the way!

Blank plug above No3 Cylinder is for oil temp sender

Well I'm gonna look at getting prosport ones. Looked at a couple of vids on youtube, I like the startup procedure.

Now a couple of people say the elecrtic ones are a lot slower than the analogue ones.

Wat are your opinions. I'm getting these gauges to help me maintain the engine.

If you mean pressure senders, then yes, that's what I used to fit mine. Plumbed in to the pressure switch under the alternator and then add the gauge sender on the second hole.

The dilemma I have is this.

I want to fit basically a Oil Pressure and Oil Temp and replace my Apexi Boost Gauge.

Now I'm not confident at all in fitting it myself as I will end up doing something wrong.

Could get Scoobyworld to fit them but there Prosport are more expensive and plus I would have to travel all that way.

The Garages I've asked so far have said they will have a go but would need to look at gauges and where to fit them.

I'm up in Bridlington east yorkshire.

Just gave scoobyworld a ring and they said they can fit the gauges and that they use a sandwhich for the oil pressure sender. I said I've heard they can be dodgy and leak. He gave me the reply that the ebays ones do but we have had no probs.

2 years ago I'd have done it for you, I used to live in Beverley

The garage I use uses sandwich plates to. It's all down to personal preference I suppose. I just wasn't ready to do an oil change when I bought my gauges and the kit I bought came with the LMA adaptor

9 times out of 10 yes, but some of the ebay specials are that bad that I wouldn't even try PTFE tape.

Oh, and PTFE tape only works if you tighten up the joint

Ok so if i was to use a Sandwhich plate I would have to drop my oil.

If so oops Ive just had a service a month ago and used some expensive oil, yikes. Maybe if I get a fitting guide or something then my garage will be able to give it a go, I would rather get it done by people who really know what they are doing lol

You would lose an oil filter full I suspect. The filter sits higher than the sump, but you should replace the oil filter once it's off. Other people may disagree, but I would never refit a used oil filter

This will give you an idea, the difference is you will connect direct to the gauges and not via the Defi link
