I just took the engine out of a uk2000 on the weekend MY99. If your handy with a socket set and pliers, should have it out in a morning... They are quite easy imo

just make sure you remove the clutch pivot arm before you try to seperate the engine and box

Humm well, just looking at your pic's can't tell you what the pipe is as mine has air con there (uk 2000 with a broken air con adjuster) shouldn't be lot's of oil in the turbo or intercooler, i would expect a bit if it was diesel.could just be a seal! was it smoke or steam from the breather? find the c***s who robbed your bit's and chop there fingers of.....

Right after a lot of research i have come to a conclustion that i have done my piston rings in, what i think is happning is broken piston ring is pressurzing the crankcase there for pushing oil out the breathers and out the exhaust. today i have removed the inlet mani and rad to make room to remove engine.
just wondering if the front slam panel bolts off or is it spot welded?
also when i get the engine out is it hard changing the piston rings, i mite just buy new pistons?

cheers guys

what do you suggest lol?
it was running 308 BHP before i blew the rings, turbo is fine looks brand new.
i will be getting a new exhaust but its a bit of a pain in the **** as i lost my job friday lol and im only 18 so have around 3000 to spend on it. i could have it rebuilt by someone but rather do it my self lol.

To be fair i'm quite new to my impreza so havent done much just yet, I lost my job not long ago it's harsh! But you got to be looking at race pistons and hardend rods etc. Speak to david at api engines he knows his beans when it comes to imprezas really good. I havent got his number to hand but they have a site. Welcome to the API website
