Default What engine mods should i do?

What Mods.

Hi there. Im just trying to work out what engine mods i should be going for/need for the future. These wont happen for a good few months, but might as well research well now.

The car is for fast road/track, and i cant afford to forge, and dont want to yet replace the turbo.

I was going to go for:
Fuel Pump
FMIC (hybrid gt?)(like the look)
Some recommended induction kit
Some dual map ECU (simtek probably)
3" decat.

What other bits am i going to need? I see people posting about swirl pots and oil catch cans, will i need to up the injectors or fuel lines?

I think these are termed as stage 1 mods. What kinda power should i be expecting from these? Im after a reliable up in power which will take track abuse.

Its a 98 v4 STI by the way.

all advice welcome. You can regard brakes and suspension/arbs sorted on this car already for this query.

Will uprated injectors be required to make the best from the other mods?

From Andy's site, it gives a few ideas what to look for.

Me I'd look for an oil temp gauge, OR a thermostat equipped oil cooler set-up.

Especially for track use.

imho

Cmon then. What makes/stuff am i going to need.

As i want to go whole hog with the SIMTEK ecu will i still need a fuel pressure regulator/maf etc? Also can the simtek measure the air instake after the DV so i can have a nice DV?

Was gonna go Hybrid GT FMIC (any others i should consider?)
Walbro Fuel pump (any setup required/supporting parts?)
What induction kit should i go for? What is the best for decent money? What supporting parts will this need or will it come as a complete kit?
3" decat is on but currently restricted to 2.5 half way down untill i can get it remapped.

Already got a full compliment of gauges and the brakes are working well but may upgrade as i see fit. Also suspensions/arbs probably after donny ... mid april.

What about these oil catch cans? are they required? what do they do? Fuel press reg?

Help with brands please

Also is it worth doing headers? How restrictive are the standard headers on an STI for the above mods? Likley to free up some more bhp or just a futureproofing mod?

The Simtek uses the MAP sensor as opposed to the OEM systems MAF, so yes you can run a DV without the overfuelling lark.

Oil catch cans, basically a container connected to the breathers from the engine, so that if (read when) oil is blown through the breathers it ends up in the can, as opposed to inside the intake on the OEM system. Which may lead to coating of the intercooler, therefore higher charge temps and then detonation. Which is a bad thing.

HTH Tim.

I assume more oil will get blown through the breathers at high RPM? i.e. on a track. so that would be a worthwhile mod?

Is it an essential mod? I assume that the Simtek is going to come with a readout of Det so i can back off. meaning this mod would not really be required unless i consistencly had higher levels of det.

Whats a swirl pot?

On the side of buying a simtek. The apexi has this power FC + Commander gizmo. What do the Simteks come with? Ideally i would like some kinda screen where i can adjust boost/monitor det etc. Does the simtek come with a boost controller also ?
