Purpose of Oil Gallery above Cyl. 3
Can anyone explain the purpose of the oil gallery above cyl 3? I have fitted an oil temp probe into here, but want to check what depth is ok for it to be fitted.
Does oil flow up and through or from the side down? Does the oil flow through there at all?
Does anyone have an oil flow diagram?
cheers, Dave.

sorry to hijack but is it possible to have your oil pressure gauge plugged into here instead of the one at the front there was gauges for sale with a t-piece so you can plug the existing sender on as well thanks.

That's a great way of explaining it, better than the diagram in the workshop manual..!
To the OP, the gallery will be full of oil at between 2-7bar/29-100psi..! Therefore the tip of the sender is fine 'just' in the gallery.
Also, yes this position can also be used for an oil pressure gauge..

I swapped an LMA adapter from a blobeye to a hawkeye car and the adapter won't bolt as far down into the 2.5 gallery as the 2.0 - any reason why?
Its causing me grief as whatever I use to build up a spacer will leak oil eventually. Next job is to cut the adapter down to size.

Thanks for that. So from the drawing the oil flows towards the rear to cyl no 3. But does it flow in the side of the gallery and down the hole at the bottom?
I'm asking this because my probe sits down into the small round hole in the gallery. If oil was to flow through from side to bottom then my probe would block the gallery.
If not then i am ok, if it does flow through then i will have to raise the probe to sit in the flow.
cheers, Dave

The oil flows down the oil gallery above No.3 cylinder, comes out the side of the gallery, and down the drilling you mentioned - this is the oil supply for No.5main bearing journal.
With your sender unit screwed into the adaptor, cant see how it can block off the main bearing supply tbh.

Mick,
Thanks for that. Just what i wanted to know!! My probe is quite large it protrudes down into the hole at the bottom of the gallery so will be blocking flow. I'll have to lift it up.
The gauge is a Racetech oil temp, think its P14B.
cheers, Dave
