Default Fitting Decat Down pipe Help!

Hi, Im fitting a decat downpipe to my classic and i have two probles i would appreciate some help/advice with. Ran out of time today but will do it tomorrow.

1st problem. There are two sensors. one before the cat and one after the cat. The one before the cat, no problem. the one after the cat is about a foot and a half further away than its original position. Can/should i run the car with this second sensor disconnected? Or should i extend the wires to fit it (more time).

2nd Problem. 4 out of 5 turbo bolts of gone on perfectly. However one i just cant do. the bell housing from the new car is making it too big and there is no angle to turn the damn thing. i can do perhaps 20th of a turn a time, not even enough to move the spanner round 1 notch. Im thinking i should do it as tight as i can, which is not very, and make sure the other 4 are nice and tight and hope the gasket does its job.

The bolt in question, if looking from the front, is the bottom left.

Advice please. This is such a **** of a job even with the intercool off and no turbo bolts being snapped. There is just no room on these imprezas!

Sensr after the cat should be the 'cat on fire' sensor, throws a dash light if it gets too hot.. so ok to leave unplugged.

The 2nd problem should be easily tackled from the other side, ie do your spannering from the left side rather than the right side. If you've got a ratchet spanner it helps, it does at first seem a bit tight but should be easy enough.

ratchet spanner is too big. ratchet with differing sockets is to big. Tried from left right top bottom everywere.

Hope fully a fresh head will get it dont tomorrow.

So this cat on fire thing? Shoulld i have it plugged in or is there really no need? Now it has no cat to get too hot?

I did my 3" open neck downpipe with a Halfords pro ratchet 14mm the other day so it's possible a clear head will help!

O FFS!

Do i need to cut the heat sheild or something to get it back on?

Advice: never change a downpipe. just leave it alone..

That nut had no room to get a ratchet spanner on at all. not a chance. Ring end and open ender only just. its tight enough now.

but the heat sheild wont go back on.. advice?

Right its all on. Not fired it up yet tho.

Think its gonna stink with the amount of wd40 used. and oily hands. Had to cut away the heatsheild quite drastically with the angle grinder to get it on. Probably chopped of 33%. Th bit near the brake reservoir is still in place and near the ic. Just the extended bit which is near the master cylinder is gone. There is still some protection for the ms so i think it should be ok.

Just gotta fire it up now and see how stupidly loud it is! then take it all off again in disgust lol.

Yeah they do require a bit of trimming don't they!

Went at mine with a jigsaw.. was quite funny with it dancing around in my hands.

well the heatsheils has to be on the car otherwise i thin kthere will be too much heatsock into the engine and near the brake fluid.

In heinsight i should have wrapped the DP. perhaps that will be next weeks job.

Yes its on. But now its raining so i cant work on it anymore to sort the leaks out.

Im hoping once its stopped blowing and i turn it down it will be much quieter. It is really loud.... WIll get my db meter on it in a mo.

Right the back box is on better now i think. Gotta the old clamp loosened up with some elbow grease and also some zaust tape just to be on the safe side. Will see how it sounds in a bit. Im guessing its still gonna be loud..

im in the process of prepin myself to fit a ninja sports cat pipe, i have removed the turbo heat shield so i can soak the nuts, wahay, overnight etc next weekend.

the only nut i can see being a problem is the one nearest the gearbox side at the bottom

Yeah the turbo heat sheild. My decat pipe was much wider so it no longer fit. Had to cut it.

Tbh getting the dp off was no problem. Its putting it back on. The mouth of the DP encroches on the space for one of the nuts meaning i cant get anything other than a rin spanner on it. All the rest were easy.

Quite happy with the fitment of the DP now, just took a fair amount of effort to get it perfect.

i think those turbos get insanley hot and i would want to stop it getting to the brake reserviour.

Its easy to fit back on when you eventually chop enough of it off. Only the bottom bit had to go at a diagonal. Once i decided to cut the sheild it didnt take long to get it back on.

I would say put the effort in and cut it and refit it. something better than nothing. Or if your not then wrap your dp?

not really. im sure you could do it but i think it would be a pain in the **** and end as a substandard job.

Although i was planning on wrapping the top of mine. Will see how i feel when i get around to doing it. Should have wrapped it first...

Wrap the downpipe with good quality wrap, removethe heatshields from the turbo and fit a turbo blanket which is more effective anyway
