CEL LIGHT

CEL LIGHT
Had the cel light come on the other day, my local garage plugged it in and found it was a temperature sensor. They turned the light off but now it's back on, (they said it might), can anyone tell me what the next step is? The exhaust including the uppipe has no cats, the only temperature sensor I know of is in the uppipe, EGT I think it's called.Any help? cheers, Mick.

easy fix
search for uppipe resistor on here, t'is a common problem on the newage wrx's if decat uppipe added. basically bridge the connector (where the EGT sensor lead used to plug in) with a resistor and problem goes away.

My uppipe came (harveyperformance) with the threaded hole for the sensor to fit in, so the sensor is there just the same as it was before I changed the uppipe. Perhaps it needs cleaning?

the car is decatted and I presume unmapped for the change and the exhaust gas is hotter and therefore triggering the EGT limit CEL.. cheap fix is a resistor, proper fix is a remap.

Simon, the decat exhaust (Hayward & Scott) came with a cel fix which was fitted to the ecu, then came the decat uppipe with provision for the Egt which was connected. The car has since been remapped by Bob Rawle a couple of months ago.I went out in the car this morning and the cel did'nt come on!Your opinion would be most welcombe, Mick.

so either the egt sensor has failed or it has exceeded the limit set when it was mapped.
did the light come on during spirited drive or normal driving?
if spirited then it would be worth checking into why, if normal then the sensor has probably failed.. it goes through a number of tests and after a while decides the sensor has failed so it may take a while to reoccur once turned off.

plus if it was a one occurrance I wouldn't worry about it until it does it again as it could just have been a one off.. the ecu on your car is fairly sensitive (female).

Simon, thanks for the info, the light came on the next day after it was turned off (sat) but sunday and today it's stayed off. Fairly normal driving when it first came on.If I get another EGT sensor for the uppipe would I need to get it from Hayward & Scott or somewhere else? Sorry with all the questions. Cheers, Mick.
